Yesterday was the #SpringEquinox2025, and today is #WorldPoetryDay - a great opportunity to appreciate the importance of trees and the role they play in our lives. We are also celebrating the #InternationalDayOfForests, recognising the vital role forests play in sustaining life, providing oxygen, shelter, and a deep sense of connection to nature. 🌳💚 To honour this, we’re sharing a beautiful poem by Mary Oliver, 'When I Am Among the Trees', which captures the peace and perspective that trees and forests offer us. This site was planted for woodland creation. We have taken care to leave clearways underneath the power lines. There appears to be empty squares dotted around the site. If you look closely, these areas are actually planted using vole guards. This is to shield trees that typically don’t need the protection of a full stake and tube. Why? Another day, another forest. Funded by Coronation Living Heritage Fund, we partnered with @northnorthlantscouncil to plant a micro forest in Castlefields Park in Wellingborough. We couldn’t have done it without the volunteers from @wellingboroughecogroup, @hinduclimateaction and 70 children from local schools who joined us for a few days of planting, forestry education and fun! Just like that, another fantastic micro forest has taken root in an urban space! 🌳 We’re thrilled to have partnered with North Northamptonshire Council to plant 750 UK native trees at Castlefields Park in Wellingborough. This project was truly a community effort, with dedicated volunteers from the Wellingborough Eco Group, local primary schools, and Hindu Climate Action coming together to bring this vision to life. Funded by the Coronation Living Heritage Fund, this initiative ensures the micro forest has the materials, resources, and aftercare it needs to establish and thrive for generations to come. Urban micro forests do so much more than just provide a home for wildlife—they improve air quality, boost biodiversity, and create a space where people can connect with nature. This new green space will not only benefit the environment but also give local volunteers and community groups the chance to be directly involved in its care and future growth. The Castlefields micro forest will serve as a lasting legacy of the Coronation year, enhancing biodiversity, strengthening climate resilience, and offering a natural space for the whole community to enjoy.
