Our Group Commercial Director, Darren Smith had a fantastic day at the launch of Rail Campus Derby last week, alongside Elaine Clark OBE. "It was a pleasure to meet the Secretary of State for Transport, Louise Haigh MP and explain how TDI's Very Light Rail solutions can provide affordable rail transport for lower density rural and suburban areas. We discussed TDI's Greenway Initiative, an exciting new social enterprise model that brings together public ownership with private investment to enable the re-opening of disused rail lines. These routes can connect local commuters to mainline services, supporting economic growth and local opportunities in the area." If you are a local authority that hasn't already met with Darren and are looking to improve your local integrated transport solutions, please contact Darren today. #VeryLightRail #Greenwayinitiative #RailForum #DfT #Lightweightthinking Rail Forum Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom

"Had an amazing time at the Rail Forum conference in Doncaster yesterday! 🚆✨ It was a fantastic event organized by the incredible Rail Forum team. Huge congratulations to Transport Design Internationals very own Geoff Newman and everyone else who delivered such inspiring presentations and panel discussions. 🗣️👏 I was particularly interested in the international trade discussion chaired by Lucy Prior MBE MSc , where we heard some fantastic insights from Simon Burke at the Department for Business and Trade. As an export champion for the DBT myself, I can only echo his comments on the amazing support they offer at both regional and international levels. 🌍🤝 A big thank you to everyone who visited our stand! Time! There is never enough and that was the case with our manufacturing panel at today's conference which I had the pleasure to chair. So I wanted to provide my conclusion and extend my thanks again. We want the rail industry to make better use of UK manufacturing and I hope that got folks thinking about how they can do that. Some comments from my panel: *Manufacturing is the backbone of the country. *Use the opportunity to be responsible (recognizing manufacturers must deliver) *Early engaging with UK manufacturers will deliver a better product and using their experience and expertise of making, will help you make it better * Bigger picture ...not just wider economic impact, also consider whole project costs (reducing installation costs can make a positive impact) *Challenge yourself...could you source from UK, could you source with 30 miles? And of course please use our fabulous new UK Manufacturing Brochure, launched today (out to the world tomorrow) and brought to life by our Manufacturing Steering Group! Sincere thanks for our panel, Joanne Farms of Hydram Engineering - Sheet Metal Fabrications , Geoff Newman of Transport Design International , Steve Barbour of Composite Braiding Ltd and John Pearce of Made in Britain - official
