  • >Vote of confidence in Transport for the South East following government funding announcement for 2025/26.< Transport for the South East (TfSE) will continue to make the case for improved transport infrastructure and sustainable travel options in the South East following a £2.1m funding settlement from the government for 2025/26. This news comes after the submission of a new business plan to the Department for Transport, outlining our priorities for 2025/26. Cllr Keith Glazier, Chair of TfSE said: “We are all aware that these are challenging times, and the significance of this settlement underscores the importance of our work and our commitment to our partnership approach. "I am very pleased that our support for the government’s missions, along with our collaborative work with the DfT and our partners, has been recognised through this funding settlement. "We will continue to champion the case for investment in transport at every level and ensure that the government is aware of our transport priorities and ambitions across the region. “We are not going to cease our support for the region’s Local Transport Authorities and our work this year, launching a revised transport strategy, updating the SIP and developing the Centre of Excellence.” In the past year, we have: • delivered a Centre of Excellence, providing additional resources and support to local transport authorities (LTA) • written a new draft transport strategy which highlights our key missions based on strategic connectivity, resilience, integration, decarbonisation and sustainable growth (publishing in the autumn) • provided funding through our Strategic Investment Programme (SIP), directly supporting LTAs across the region • progressed our analytical framework, developing an evidence base in the fields of modelling and data for our LTA partners • supported progress towards sustainable transport and decarbonisation through our work on electric vehicle charging and reducing carbon emissions • collaborated with our Sub-national Transport Body partners supporting government priorities and improving transport infrastructure across the country The updated business plan will be presented for approval in the TfSE partnership board meeting later this month.

  • Members of the TfSE team attended the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom Integrated National Transport Strategy roadshow in Brighton today. DfT Director General for Corporate Delivery Group Nick Joyce welcomed delegates from local authorities, operators and interest groups in the south east and set the scene about how the government wants to recognise the critical role transport plays in people’s lives. In her video address, Secretary of State Heidi Alexander said that she wanted to ensure that transport “works better for more people in more places.” She spoke about the importance of more integrated transport networks, recognised that accessibility is a key priority and how transport can play a major role in helping the government achieve its objective of economic growth. In an interesting and lively roundtable session, delegates discussed a series of important areas where transport has a significant impact including sustainability, housing, health and well-being, economic growth and the importance of the user experience. The feedback will be used by the DfT in their drafting of the strategy which is expected to be published by the end of the year.
