I was delighted to chair an energy transition supply chain roundtable for The Scottish Government Permanent Secretary, John-Paul Marks, last week. It provided a valuable opportunity for the most senior civil servant in Scotland to hear, first hand, of the opportunities and risks faced by the engine room of our transition to renewables and consider how he can shape the civil service to support the acceleration to commercialisation. Many thanks indeed to Energy Transition Zone Ltd for hosting and Julie Richards Wood for facilitating the visit. Great result for our clients Rahd AI and Ventex Studio yesterday with a substantial piece in The Times about their AI breakthrough which has the potential to cut the cost of decommissioning by £10billion in the UK alone. The “game changing” platform uses data from 15,000 wells around the world to calculate the most efficient way to decommission a field. Another example of the amazing innovation taking place in #Aberdeen right now, led by Jake Stride, Stuart McLeod, Steven Gray and Robert Aitken. As a result of this story, Treasury officials have opened the door to backing the AI system and said that Labour ministers would examine any scheme that could “cut costs for taxpayers”. Yesterday the Changemakers Conference landed for the very first time in Scotland 🤩🚀 The National Museum of Scotland was buzzing with Scotland's sharpest marketing minds who were joined by industry experts, thought leaders and true changemakers - each on a mission to define what IMPACT really means in marketing. This wasn't just about trends. We heard Kevin Lynch challenging the old rules, explored stories about market innovators like Octopus Energy (Rebecca Dibb-Simkin) and Deliveroo (Michelle Lavipour) and dove deep into the power of B-Corp with Rationale, Material | B Corp™, Muckle Media - a certified B-Corp and AlwaysBeContent B-Corp. Fergus Mutch looked at the intriguing overlap between politics and marketing, while Jacob Wright brought a fresh perspective to brand building. Mark Fawcett spotlighted the immense potential and value of the youth audience and Mercy Abel shared inspiring stories which highlighted the power of internships for underrepresented communities. We discussed the challenges and opportunities around privacy in AI with Murray Cree and Anneli Ritari-Stewart, gained insights from the ground-breaking research done by Andrew Tindall on creative consistency, then closed the day with a thought provoking session on what it means to be a brave leader with david mcqueen. Our Land & Planning Director Neil Young has welcomed reports that Shell have submitted plans to redevelop the site of their former HQ in the Altens Industrial Estate as a charging hub for electric vehicles. Mr Young said: “If progressed, these plans would see Shell making a welcome, positive and significant investment in the Energy Transition Zone. “Establishing the firm’s first all EV-facility in Scotland is fitting way to mark their continued presence in Aberdeen and would further cement the transformational journey this city and region is on as we strive to become global leaders in the race to net zero.” https://lnkd.in/ev8NTyZD
