Just months after being sown wildflowers have started blooming on the Corby site. As part of the site’s environmental plans an area adjacent to the small woodland was sown with wildflowers earlier this year. Environment and Sustainability Specialist Rob Sandercock said; “We didn’t really expect much in the first year, but it is lovely to see how quickly these native species can brighten up the area.” Volunteers from across the site have been doing their bit to clean up and manage the woodland area, important for the health and wellbeing of everyone on the site, and plans are in place to install new birdboxes ahead of next year’s nesting season.

Colleagues at the Hartlepool 20-inch mill are celebrating after being recertified by an external quality auditing body. Three separate audits by the Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA) were carried out to examine the site’s maintenance of the management, factory production control system and its compliance with a number of regulations. These are important certifications as any major adverse finding would lead to the suspension of license and prevent the site from being able to operate. Auditors were happy with what they saw, and the Hartlepool tube site was recertified so it can continue to make and dispatch high-quality tube to customers. The complex network of cabling is being connected at the finishing end of the new Combination Mill, where you can see they’re being labelled for identification, crimped and then terminated in to their final position. Tube transfer equipment is fully installed and grouted to the floor alongside the magnetic packer which will feed the bundled tubes into the Signode strapping machines, which you can see in the last image, before sending off to the warehouse. Thousands of tonnes of steel coils are now arriving in the UK by ship from across the globe for our tube mills at Hartlepool and Corby. 20,000 tonnes were offloaded, stored and dispatched to our sites by AV Dawson – a long-time partner better known for shipping Tata Steel UK products out to customers. Matthew Waters, Network Operations Manager in Tata Steel UK Logistics and Group MD of AV Dawson, Charlie Nettle, explain what’s been going on behind the scenes in this video… @AV Dawson | #TataSteelUK

Green steel and eco-pipework We are contributing to the UK achieving its ambition and its net-zero objective, and are ready to lead the next technological leap forward, to produce sustainable steel for the major infrastructure projects and efficient green buildings of the future. Whilst we transition to our new green steel processing capabilities, we have a range of interim solutions to reduce our pipework CO2. This includes: 1. Our innovative DNV validated, Eco-tube scheme, that offers up to 90% Scope 3 carbon reductions. 2. Increasing electrification of our tube manufacturing combined with using more solar and green energy. 3. Advising on correct pipework wall thickness, or the use of stronger steel grades to reduce tube weight and associated CO2 without impacting service life or performance. All to achieve CO2 reductions to meet your own green targets. Go to https://ow.ly/AbXw50SH2NN to find out more. #GreenSteelFuture | #TataSteelUK

In this latest ‘fish eye’ lens photograph of the mechanical install at the new Combination Mill, you can see in the middle of the image, we’ve progressed with completing the magnet section of the tube bundling machine. Down to the right of the picture you can now see the conveyors which carry the tubes down to the finishing section - the wiring in this section is nearing completion - and beyond that we’ve had more equipment delivered. Well done team 👏👷👷♀️🔧 RRS Group | MAIR RESEARCH S.P.A. | #TSUK

We’ve recently introduced a new company wide ‘one person, one lock’ safety system to keep employees and contractors safe during maintenance and repairs within our Corby and Hartlepool mills. The main benefit is that every member of the working party has the ability to influence their own safety around the isolation and immobilisation of plant. No isolations can be removed until all members of the working party have removed their lock that is keeping them safe. When one person, one lock was first introduced late last year it was praised by Multi Unions representative Mark Davies, secretary of the Joint Works Health Safety Advisory Council. He said: “This is a positive step forward for the business that has been very well received by operators. By putting people’s safety in their own hands, the one person, one lock system is helping to change mindsets and ensure a sharp focus on safety.”

    Congratulations Ellie 👏 👏 😁

Over the years apprentices have played a key role in Tata Steels Success. Ellie Cooper is no exception! Ellie joined us in September 2022 as Tata Steel Tubes’ first Customer Services apprentice. In conjunction with Bedford College and their local campus, Tresham College in Corby, Ellie has spent 18 months completing her Business Administration Level 3 qualification. The Business Administration course has provided Ellie with a highly transferable set of knowledge, skills and behaviours that could be applied in many sectors. Training and experience during this time has provided Ellie with the skillset to work independently or as part of a team. In addition to her course requirements, Ellie has spent time learning all aspects of the activities we handle on a daily basis and is now able to carry out a pro-active, productive Customer Service Representative role. Ellie now looks after a broad portfolio of customers, spread over many markets, buying a varied range of tubular products. Ellie is very much enjoying the opportunity to develop relationships with her new customers and prides herself on providing an excellent service. Ellie is pictured below with her Team Manager Claudia Campbell who played a key role in her development. Claudia said "We have been delighted with Ellie during her apprenticeship and beyond. Ellie is a popular member of our team and she has a great attitude to her work" We wish Ellie the best of luck in her future career with Tata Steel. #tubes #apprenticeships #Tubes @ Tata Steel UK #bedfordcollege #tresham #tatasteel #corby
