The 11th edition of the International Tunnelling and Underground Space awards is underway with the ITA now calling new candidates to apply. The 2025 edition will take place on October 1st in Belgrade, Serbia, as part of the Southeastern Europe Tunnelling Conference (SETC-2025), organized by the Serbian Association for Tunnels and Underground Structures (ITA Serbia), which will be held from October 1st to 3rd, 2025. Following its 8km drive underneath the capital, HS2 and contractor SCS JV have lifted Herrenknecht TBM ‘Sushila’ out of the ground at the Green Park Way site in Greenford, West London. The cutterhead, front and middle shield, weighting 850 tonnes, were lifted from the vent shaft in one piece on Saturday, March 15th, using a 750 tonne gantry crane. Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC), in partnership with Tata Projects Limited (TPL), has won a US$254M contract for the construction of a 8.65km long corridor including underground tunnels and stations for the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL). HCC holds a 55% share in the joint venture, amounting to US$140M. A major milestone in the plan for subsea tunnels between the Shetland mainland and Yell and between Yell and Unst has been reached with the commissioning of sonar investigations and a report which will make recommendations for the seismic survey locations that will contribute to the determination of the alignments of the tunnels.
