Congratulations to our Princess Royal Hospital urology department who are now one of the first in the region to offer a new and efficient treatment helping men affected by a common urinary condition. Patients with recurring Urethral Stricture Disease experience problems with their urinary flow due to scarring of the urethra (the tube that transports urine from the bladder to outside the body). The scarring causes narrowing of the tube, making it difficult to urinate. Now these patients can receive Optilume treatment at Princess Royal Hospital which prevents the disease reoccurring, reduces the need for multiple complex surgeries and is performed as a day case procedure. This achievement demonstrates the urology department’s commitment to using the latest technologies and techniques in patient care, establishing them as a leading service for innovative procedures in the region. Mr Ammar Alanbuki, Consultant Urologist said: "Using cutting-edge technology like Optilume is crucial for improving patient outcomes and enhances efficacy compared to traditional methods. “This innovative approach leads to a quicker recovery, less pain, and fewer follow-up procedures, offering a more comfortable and effective solution for patients. As we treat more patients using this method, it will free up operating theatres as it reduces their need for multiple procedures in the future." A huge well done to the team for this impressive achievement. 👏🏻👏🏽👏🏿

We’ve hit a major milestone. 🎉 Phase two of the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) at Southlands Hospital is now complete! Our new CDC is helping speed up diagnosis for the people of Sussex allowing patients to access planned diagnostic care nearer to their home without the need for them to attend busier hospital sites. Last year, we proudly opened the first phase of this game-changing centre, which has already seen more than 60,000 patients. Now, we’re thrilled to expand this fantastic service even further. With CT and MRI scanners, and state-of-the-art X-ray rooms from phase one just across the corridor, phase two adds the final piece of the puzzle. It will provide additional diagnostic services, including echocardiography, ultrasound, gynaecological, and respiratory procedures. The complete CDC service will now offer a true ‘one-stop’ model of care, enhancing efficiency and further improving the overall patient experience for people in Sussex. We can’t wait to open our doors to patients. In the meantime, take a sneak peek at its incredible transformation!

Fresh off the stage from our staff conference earlier this month, Olympian Leon Taylor shares the reasons you should take part in our Big Conversation survey and help to shape a medal-worthy strategy for our hospitals. It only takes 5 minutes to complete and is open to patients and healthcare partners across Sussex. So please dive right in and get started - we look forward to hearing from you! ⬇️ https://lnkd.in/e32kBtMU

Our staff have been engaging with partners all week, discussing our new strategy for 2025-2030. 🌟 Colleagues from local authorities, the NHS, voluntary sector, hospices, charities, and more joined events in Worthing, Brighton, Horsham, and Chichester. They have been talking about what we do well, where we can improve, and where we can do more together. Led by our strategy team, these discussions are part of developing a new Trust strategy and run parallel to our public engagement efforts, gathering feedback from patients and carers. Across the week, we heard brilliant examples of partnership working and emphasised the need to be bold and brave in working with others. A big thank you to all our partners who took the time to engage with us so we could hear so many ideas and perspectives. Our public and partners surveys are live until mid-December. We encourage you to share your experiences and thoughts for the future: https://lnkd.in/e32kBtMU

Over the past two days, we had the absolute joy of hosting colleagues from across our hospitals, representing all professions, at our second UHSussex all-staff conference. This event was a fantastic opportunity for everyone to engage with the wider workforce, fostering growth, learning, and driving forward our vision and values for a brighter future. The conference was packed with sessions focused on engaging and motivating our workforce, fostering leadership, and building strong teams. We were inspired by Olympic diver and speaker, Leon Taylor, who shared his insights on mental wellness and high performance, helping us improve our mindset and get the best out of ourselves. Motivational speaker, Gina Buckney also captivated us with her experiences in high-pressure environments, emphasizing the importance of positive mental health for higher productivity. Our Patient Experience team showcased the transformative Welcome Standards programme, highlighting the importance of continuing to deliver values-centric care that makes a lasting first impression on our patients. Beyond the sessions and speakers, it was heart-warming to see colleagues from different hospitals and departments connecting, sharing experiences, and finding common ground. This sense of unity and collaboration is what our conference is truly all about. A huge thank you to everyone who attended, shared their stories, and supported the event, including our dedicated charity, My University Hospitals Sussex, for their generous funding. We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! 💙

This week, we hit a major milestone in our digital transformation journey by kicking off the phased implementation of an electronic document management system (eDMS). 📅💻 Our Chief Information Officer Cara Williams said: "This is an exciting development for the Trust. The eDMS has enabled us to begin digitising our patient records, laying the foundation for our full electronic patient record (EPR)." "This will lead us to better, more coordinated patient care, and will significantly improve patient experience and efficiency." Exciting updates are on the way as we work towards creating a fully electronic patient record system.

We’ve launched our Big Conversation campaign inviting people to help shape our five-year strategy for the Trust. We want to hear the views of those who know most about what they want from our services – the people and communities who rely on local hospital care. Just visit the campaign page to complete the survey and be part of the conversation. https://bit.ly/4f98HCj

We are thrilled to have won a Health Tech award alongside partners e18 Innovation and Netcall for reducing waiting lists, making administrative tasks more efficient and overall improving patient care. 💻 The project has achieved remarkable results, including an 80% response rate and the removal of over 13% of patients who no longer need to be on waiting lists. It has also saved more than 266 hours per week on manual data entry, allowing staff to focus more on planned care and further reducing waiting lists. Donna Steeles, Assistant Director of Performance and Improvement led the innovative project, she said: “I’m thrilled that our team’s hard work has been recognised. This project has made a big difference for our patients and will continue to do so.” “A big thank you to everyone who helped implement this project and to my colleagues who worked so hard to make it a success!” Congratulations team UHSussex. 💙
