SOLT combines its long-standing roles in such areas as industrial relations and legal advice for members with a campaigning role for the industry, together with a wide range of audience-development programmes. Services include: - Advice on legal, general and industrial relations matters - Managing the process of collective bargaining with the entertainments trade unions - Providing commercial services of benefit to the membership as a whole - Promoting theatre-going to the widest possible audience - Representing to the wider public, and to public and other relevant authorities, the interests of the theatre industry as a whole - Research on behalf of the industry as a whole Consumer facing work includes: - the industry’s leading website OfficialLondonTheatre.com - the TKTS ticket booth in Leicester Square - audience development promotions including Kids Week and the New Year Sale - career and education initiatives including TheatreCraft and Inspiring Future Theatre - the only Theatre Tokens gifting scheme - the biggest events in the theatre calendar including the Olivier Awards with Mastercard and West End LIVE --- Founded in 1894, UK Theatre has traditionally supported theatre organisations and now also helps individuals who work professionally in the performing arts at all stages of their career. We offer five types of membership including special schemes for sole traders, suppliers of goods and services to the industry and concert halls. Our members benefit from access to a range of professional services, high quality training and events, and networking opportunities. As well as running the only awards scheme to recognise excellence in theatre throughout the UK, we lead audience development programmes and actively campaign on behalf of theatres and their audiences.

"Jennie Lee understood that a successful arts policy must break down silos. She rejected short-term, reactive funding in favour of a strategic, joined-up approach at both local and national levels. She championed embedding arts venues within communities and integrating the arts into education to foster future talent. "She believed that only through these means could we achieve true cultural democracy – equal access to the arts for all." On the 60th anniversary of Jennie Lee's landmark White Paper, 'A Policy for the Arts', our Co-CEOs Claire Walker and Hannah Essex discuss how she would tackle today's challenges 👇 https://lnkd.in/e5ega2rV

We welcome the Government’s recognition of the urgent need to support arts venues. The £85 million fund for essential upgrades is a positive step. However, theatres alone require at least £500 million over the next four years to prevent closures. Without a long-term investment plan, many venues face an uncertain future. The Government has rightly identified the creative industries as a growth sector and theatre has a powerful role to play in revitalising local high streets, attracting international investment, and driving jobs across the UK. The upcoming Spending Review must outline sustained investment to unlock further support from philanthropy and sponsorship. As Jennie Lee stated in A Policy for the Arts: ‘There is no short-term solution for what by its very nature is a long-term problem.’ A thriving cultural sector relies on venues to support artists and audiences – ensuring theatre remains vibrant and accessible for all. Our response to the Government’s announcement of a new fund for arts infrastructure 👇 https://lnkd.in/e8p8Sb_m
