UK National Committee on China bids a fond farewell to Wenjing Gu who has contributed so much over the past three years as a leader in her field of sustainability and climate change. Her many contributions range from negotiating and coordinating UKNCC’s participation in COP27 - UN Climate Change Conference to coordinating numerous delegations visiting the UK from China to explore the potential for city to city collaboration in hydrogen energy cooperation with Manchester City Council. Wenjing will be missed as a member of the UKNCC team and we wish her well. Looking forward, UKNCC will be shortly announcing a new member of the team who will be taking up the reigns to lead the UKNCC Climate Change Pathfinder Dialogue into the next three years.

UK National Committee on China Co-founder and Director, Andrew Cainey, visited Dr. Henry Huiyao Wang王辉耀 at the China Centre for Globalisation (CCG) for a roundtable in Beijing to explore topics including: Global Governance; UK-China relations; AI policy; and EV futures.

In anticipation of UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy going to China next week UK National Committee on China asked Kerry Brown at Lau China Institute, King's College London, Rana Mitter at Harvard Kennedy School Executive Education and Dr. Henry Huiyao Wang王辉耀 at Center for China and Globalization, in Beijing, to offer their perspectives on a critical question: Q. 'To what extent do the UK and China share a common narrative about their history?' Over the past few years, numerous China-focused groups have emerged in the UK, broadening the range of support, analysis, and opinions offered by incumbent organisations. Most function as political or membership lobbying organisations - aiming to influence policy and public opinion in ways that serve private interests. In contrast, UKNCC is driven by a different philosophy. We believe that lobbying organisations have an overall negative and polarising effect on society by promoting narrow interpretations of complex issues. UKNCC sets itself apart from this mele by being rooted in the principles of social entrepreneurship. As an educational non-profit, with a strong ethical commitment to independence, UKNCC aims to address the root cause of poor decision making on China issues in the UK—the systemic knowledge and skills deficit—through our educational programmes and pathfinder dialogues.
