Yesterday, as part of Hospitality Week, I met with hospitality businesses from across the Cities of London and Westminster to discuss: ✅ Labour's Employment Rights Bill ✅ Economic support for the hospitality sector ✅ Crime and anti-social behaviour in our capital. ✅ London as a tourism hotspot Thank you in particular to the brilliant small businesses, including The Devonshire, England's Grace, and Sacred Grounds Coffee for taking the time to join me and share your experiences, and to understand what more I can do as your local Member of Parliament to support your work. The Department for Work and Pensions will partner with UKHospitality to roll out hospitality sector-based Work Academy Programmes (SWAPs) to 26 areas in need of jobs. The expansion follows a successful pilot of the scheme in 2024, ran by UKHospitality, which delivered an 85% completion rate. Of those who completed the course, 80% secured employment in the industry. Next Wednesday is the Chancellor’s Spring Statement and we are calling for a delay to the reduction in the employer NICs threshold. The change to employer NICs alone will cost the sector an additional £1 billion per year and will bring 774,000 hospitality team members, 20% of the sector’s workforce, into the threshold for the first time. What can you do? We are encouraging everyone to write to their MP to explain the impact of the NICs increase on their business and ask that they take action. The more pressure we can put on Government to understand the devastating impact of these measures on hospitality, the more chance we have of getting changes.
