Improving lives by supporting all professionals in the delivery of kidney care and research

About us

The UK Kidney Association (UKKA) is the leading professional body for the kidney community. We are dedicated to improving lives by supporting the multi-professional team in the delivery of kidney care, education and research - enabling people to live well with kidney disease. In June 2021, following a merger with the British Renal Society (BRS), the Renal Association changed its name to the UK Kidney Association. From its foundation in 1950, the Association has been active in promoting and disseminating research that may ultimately improve outcomes for patients with kidney disease. It has also taken a leading role in the education of healthcare professionals interested in kidney disease. We have a network of over 1,400 professional members and are home to the UK Renal Registry, the British Association of Paediatric Nephrology (BAPN), the renal trainees SpR Club, the Kidney Quality Improvement Partnership (KQuIP), Rare Renal and the National Registry of Rare Kidney Diseases (RaDaR) and the UK Renal Pharmacy Group.

  • Back in 2016, a national survey on fluid management in hemodialysis patients revealed a lack of consistent policies across UK units (doi.org/10.1159/000444246). This survey informed the design of the BISTRO trial, which showed that using a standardised clinical protocol for fluid assessment significantly helps preserve kidney function, regardless of bioimpedance use (https://lnkd.in/eHaY25uy). Now, researchers are revisiting the survey to see if practices have improved post-BISTRO. Your participation in this updated survey (which takes less than 5 minutes) could help shape future clinical trials and improve patient care. ⏳ Deadline extended to 15 September. 📝 Complete the survey here: https://lnkd.in/eGbm_gpH Thank you for your valuable input! 🙏
