"How do we avoid only preaching to the choir?" I get asked this a lot, the point being that we want to #engage those who are not in the room with the powerful outcomes of having a #diversity of people thriving in #inclusive cultures, rather than those already bought in. I have a few points to make about this: First of all, I'm not sure I find it helpful to 'preach', I prefer to invite. 🎬 When we invite people into the conversation around inclusion and ask them to consider what #actions they'll take and the #accountability around that, that's got to be done with #systemic and structural #support. 🛣 Those of us who are engaged in this work, are not always either providing that or #signposting to it, which is why the work doesn't always land effectively. So, we can always listen and learn from each other better. 👯We must work together to recognise what we are doing that is similar and #collaborate as groups e.g. Women in... and Pride groups have overlap- this shouldn't be competitive. We have nuance which we can highlight, but work in coalition for effectiveness. 🚪We should be #nudging at doors that are ajar before going after those that are closed. Use the #allies we have and request, with clarity, how they can work harder to forward the work in solidarity. ⭐️ So the room is always the right room of engaged people, we simply need to #work it #differently to achieve a bigger room next time. 👇🏾 For more on my thoughts check out: Building Inclusion - The Book To work with me on strategic organisational inclusion try: Unheard Voice

It's Deaf Awareness Week. Deaf Awareness Week is an annual event to raise awareness about the Deaf community, their language, culture, and the issues they face. The UK Council on Deafness created Deaf Awareness Week to increase the visibility of challenges the deaf community faces and educate others on how they can support them. This year, Deaf Awareness Week runs from 6th May to 12th May. Whether you're Deaf, hard of hearing, or hearing, this week is for everyone to learn, engage, and support one another. Did you know that there are only 5 registered deaf architects in the UK❓ In this video, Building Inclusion author Marsha Ramroop FRSA FIEDP introduces us to Deaf Architecture Front, founded by Christopher Laing, which is a platform that aims to bridge the gap between the Deaf community and the Architectural & Spatial Design industries.
