Vaccine Confidence: Bridging Global Health Inequalities.
About us
The Vaccine Confidence Project™ (VCP) was established in 2010 by Professor Heidi Larson at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine and has regional offices at the University of Antwerp and The Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health at The University of Hong Kong. We provide decision-makers with global vaccine confidence insights to support policy and intervention design, and reduce vaccine inequalities. Our team has conducted research in over 150 countries – almost 80% of the world. Our goal is to empower individuals and their communities with the knowledge to make informed health decisions for themselves and their families.

In 2009, the EU committed to a 75% flu vaccination target for at-risk groups. With new digital tools and data at our disposal, why stop there? On 16 October, join us at #EUFluDay to discuss the importance of vaccination uptake to tackle the triple threat of flu, COVID-19 and RSV. https://lnkd.in/ds7FtuQv

Nearly 160 000 adults are hospitalised due to RSV infection every year. RSV vaccination is a cheap and effective solution that saves lives and reduces significantly reduces strain on health systems. Join us this #EUFluDay to find out more about the positive role data and digitalisation can play in ensuring uptake of RSV vaccination. 🗓 16 October https://lnkd.in/ds7FtuQv

In 2019, RSV caused 3.6 million hospitalisations & over 100 000 deaths globally among children aged under 5. Harmonised data collection and timely publication is critical to understand disease burden and vaccination uptake against respiratory viruses and protect Europeans for a stronger #EUHealthUnion. In 2009, the Council published its Recommendation on Seasonal Influenza Vaccination calling for 75% uptake. Since then, Europe has gone through a pandemic caused by another respiratory virus - #COVID19 – and a surge in the public health burden of #RSV. To enhance our immunisation efforts, we recognise the critical importance of: 🔵Collecting harmonised data on flu, COVID-19 and RSV, and publishing it in a timely way 🔵Ensuring proper and sustained resource allocation for implementing and maintaining people-centred electronic vaccination registries in EU Member States Join us on 16 October at #EUFluDay to be part of the conversation and show your support! https://lnkd.in/ds7FtuQv

Not only do COVID-19 and RSV pose a similar threat to flu, but the approaches to tackling them are often overlapping and complementary. Many best practices can be drawn from one and applied to another – including the critical importance of data surveillance and reporting toward leveraging digitalisation in health systems to improve vaccination uptake. The Steering Group on Influenza Vaccination commends the initiatives outlined in the Council Conclusions on the Future of the #EuropeanHealthUnion. To fully achieve these ambitions, we are calling for: ✅ Promotion of #immunisation as a primary prevention tool in communicable and non-communicable diseases at all stages of life. ✅Increased effort in combating mis & dis-information ✅Investment in specialised health workforce training ✅Increased development of innovative digital tools & uptake of digital health literacy for both HCPs and patients ✅Recognition of the role of respiratory infection prevention through vaccination in performance-based antimicrobial stewardship
