    At Vertex Search we recently passed our 1 year anniversary. No huge celebrations or big bangs, instead we're continuing to focus on the job at hand - finding top-tier talent for our clients. However passing this milestone I did pause to reflect on the journey so far. Starting up an agency hadn't been a part of the plan at all. Circumstances played their part, having been laid off at Meta whilst still on paternity leave for our 2nd child Jake. With my wife on maternity leave and a young family at home, I decided to take the plunge. And I'm so glad I did! 2023 was a great year for Vertex Search and 2024 promises to be even better, which in this market I'm extremely proud of. A huge thank you to the clients who have put their faith in us from the start and continue to do so, and to my wider network, old and new, who have been so helpful in this first year. It has been a massive privilege reconnecting and partnering with so many of you! A big shout out to the RecruitHub team and network, which has been so powerful in getting Vertex Search and so many other agencies established and set up to succeed. It has allowed me to soundboard with other founders and get quickly set up so that I can focus on the important parts of the role (rather than trying to fix my own IT or sort out expenses constantly!). Becoming my own boss has been such an eye-opener. It is all-encompassing and incredibly multifaceted, but I thoroughly enjoy it. I've learned so much about running a business along the way, whilst doing all aspects of the hands-on role as well - from business development to sourcing, screening calls and interview coordination, to closing deals big and small. Setting out on this venture has reignited my passion and love for recruitment, and I've enjoyed partnering with so many awesome clients in a way that I hadn't for years as an internal TA contributor and manager. Placing top candidates, and helping them fulfill their potential, brings a rush and sense of reward that I'd really missed on the inside. I'm excited for the year ahead and there may be some exciting news around the corner for Vertex Search in the coming months - stay tuned!
