  • 📢🐴Calling all prescribers of equine anthelmintics! As a supporting partner of the CANTER group we are delighted to let you know that the long-awaited CANTER guidelines have now been published on the CANTER website. The aim is to promote a consistency in approach across the industry to tackle the threat posed by wormer resistance. “These guidelines are a monumental free resource developed by leading vets and parasitologists in the field. We encourage you to read them, refer to them and reference them when advising on equine parasite control. The webpage is divided into handy sections to help you jump straight to the information you need, and if you’re not sure, then the summary document is a great place to start! Our Autumn 2024 roll out of the guidelines is targeted at prescribers of anthelmintics to give you time to read and digest the information. It is our intention to develop a range of more horse owner centred content for Spring 2025. Please use the Guidelines, bookmark them in your browser and keep on prescribing responsibly!" King’s Birthday Honours – Interview with John Millward OBE 🙌 We are celebrating John Millward, our former Head of Inspections & Enforcement Division who received an OBE in recognition of his services to Animal Health and Welfare. John was granted this prestigious honour in June 2023, in what was King Charles’ first birthday Honours list. 💬 Here’s what John had to say:    “The first I knew of it was when I received a letter in early May from the Cabinet Office marked ‘Urgent & Personal’. The letter informed me, in the strictest confidence, that I’d been recommended to His Majesty the King for the honour of ‘Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE)’. I was asked to confirm whether I would accept it – which I immediately did. To say that I was speechless would be an understatement! One often reads or hears about the famous sports men and women, film stars, and tv celebrities that have received an honour, but I never imagined throughout my nearly 40-year career, that I, someone who came from a very working-class family, would be recognised in this way. However, after reading the names of recipients on the list, I realised how many –what I’d describe as ‘ordinary folk’– were recognised and I’m sure like me, they were equally thrilled to receive such an award. My wife and I attended the investiture ceremony at Windsor Castle, where I was presented with my OBE from HRH Prince William. It was quite surreal, not only meeting His Royal Highness but also being part of a ceremony within the fabulous surroundings of the castle.   I sincerely believe that my OBE also reflects the great work that the VMD does, both nationally and internationally, in ensuring animal medicines are safe and effective; and I really appreciate the opportunities working for the VMD has given me. And finally, if there is someone you know, perhaps in your organisation, in your external partner organisations, or in your local community, who you believe has done some extraordinary work in their role, I’d certainly encourage you to think about nominating them. For me, I’m still getting used to including the letters OBE after my name and still can’t quite believe that I’ve been honoured this way, it really has been the pinnacle of my career."   🔎 Find out more Nominating someone for an honour is simple and can have a powerful impact on their life and is a moment of thanks and recognition that means a lot to the individual and their families. There is no deadline to nominate but it will take at least 12 to 18 months for your nomination to be considered. 🔗 Nominate someone for an honour or award: Overview - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)
