Contract cheating, the outsourcing of student work to a third party, is a phenomenon which shows no sign of slowing down in 2025. In fact, recent research suggests that these services have rendered 8-9% of university degrees unreliable, a shocking statistic which highlights the need for urgent action. With advancements in AI, these platforms have become even more sophisticated, offering highly personalised services. By mimicking students' writing styles, they produce bespoke essays that often evade plagiarism detection tools. In this blog piece for VICTVS, Katherine Barnett considers the rapid spread of these platforms, how they impact academic integrity, and what should be done to combat them. Last month, VICTVS attended the Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB) 2024 Conference, Exhibition & Awards conference. As longstanding attendees of FAB, VICTVS returned this year to host a coffee bar, where we had the opportunity to engage with attendees, share insights about our services, and discuss the evolving future of education and assessments. In addition to hosting our booth, our team attended several insightful talks on assessments, technology, and AI in education. Drawing on her background in digital rights and cybersecurity, our marketing team member Katherine B. reflected on day one of the conference in a recent blog post, highlighting the need for deeper discussions on app safety and cybersecurity in schools—especially with the increasing use of AI apps and platforms by students. For a comprehensive recap of the first day of the event, and a personal take on the key discussions, read our blog post at the link below. https://lnkd.in/eRfz3GZJ #EdTech #FAB2024 #AppSafety
