Our dedicated trademark attorneys Bill Goodwin and Sonia Burgess have helped to protect the heritage of legendary North East sporting event, The Blaydon Race. The 5.8 mile running race, which takes place on the 9th of June annually, originally took its inspiration from one of North East England’s most famous anthems, ‘Blaydon Races’ which features the immortal line ‘twas on the 9th Joon’, penned in 1862 by George ‘Geordie’ Ridley to celebrate the horse races held at Blaydon in Gateshead. Now the race logo which includes the line ‘twas on the 9th of Joon’ has been trademarked together on behalf of Blaydon Harrier and Athletics Club, which organises the iconic event and owns the rights to the flagship sporting event. The pro-bono project is the latest in a series of trademark campaigns delivered by the specialist team, which has a growing reputation nationally. They recently helped the company behind tourist attraction Mother Shipton’s Cave in Yorkshire, and Morley’s Chicken trademark their names, logos and associated products and services.
