  • Although the term ‘digital inclusion’ is not yet in the dictionary, we now have a confirmed definition and an ambitious action plan!👏👏👏 Two weeks ago today, the Government announced their Digital Inclusion Action Plan which outlines key actions they’ll take to improve digital inclusion nationally. The first five actions they aim to achieve are: 1) Launch a Digital Inclusion Innovation Fund to support local initiatives delivered in partnership with local leaders and devolved governments. 2) Enhance the framework that helps people and businesses get the essential skills to get online safely and with confidence. 3) Pilot a device donation scheme to provide re-purposed government laptops to those that need them. 4) Make government digital services easier to use with a renewed focus on digital inclusion. 5) Measure what works for digital inclusion, identify where the need is greatest, and establish the economic and social value of upskilling adults with digital skills.   • We talk about digital inclusion a lot. But today, on International Women’s Day, we’re viewing digital inclusion through a specific lens - a lens that sees the gender digital divide. 🔍 The most recent Consumer Digital Index by Lloyds Bank shows that when it comes to workplace Essential Digital Skills, the gender gap is growing. Fewer women (44%) can complete all 20 essential tasks for work than men (52%). 📉 There are many reasons why the gender digital divide exists (Wonder Foundation, 2022), including: 💷 Women are generally paid less than men at work so can’t afford to be online, 💻 Technology is seen as more masculine, excluding women and girls from learning digital skills, 🏠 Women spend more time doing domestic work and childrearing in the home, depending on men to deal with digital matters within the household. So to close the digital divide for everyone, we all need to accelerate action to achieve gender equality. 💪 #AccelerateAction #InternationalWomensDay #DigitalInclusion
