In partnership with Scottish Financial Enterprise and Progress Together, we hosted a roundtable to discuss the challenges of driving greater diversity and how firms can realise its long term ROI. Touching on global and regional contexts, there were 4 key themes. 🟢 Data collection to benchmark and report tangible effects on profitability is essential. 🟢 Storytelling is the key to influencing perception and culture. We must use it to build a better sector-wide understanding of socio-economic diversity and its business benefits. 🟢 The sector has made strides in entry-level programs and apprenticeships, but progression into senior levels is not representative of the diverse talent pool, contributing to a skills gap. 🟢 Investment is needed to create and scale robust routes of entry, educate a broad base of stakeholders and appoint dedicated roles to drive initiatives forward. Beautiful morning to be down in London for The Financial Services Forum's latest event, taking part in a panel discussion on in-sourcing and the use of in-house teams vs out-sourcing and the hiring of agencies. It was a relief to find that, despite the debate-style framing, our discussion focused more on why and how agencies can best add value. I'd say one of the things clients value most about working with agencies like Rationale is the outsider perspective we bring to their challenges. This allows us to spot opportunities or storytelling threads that those immersed in the day-to-day of the organisation might struggle to see. Freed from the constraints and pressures that come from working in-house, agencies often have more license to push for the unexpected, original, outside-the-box ideas that will ultimately have greater cut-through and impact in our noisy world. But at Rationale we also firmly believe that we are at our best when we work collaboratively together with a strong in-house team. Our clients are experts in their brands, products and customers, and learning from them is usually our first priority when tackling a new brief. We always get to a better solution when ideas and builds come from both sides of the partnership.
