Applications are now open for our Summer School on "Happiness and Policy", which will take place at the LSE from July 14 to August 1, 2025. It targets (advanced) Bachelor's and Master's students and is credit-bearing: 3-4 Credits (US), 7.5 ECTS Points (EU). Our Summer School caters to the increasing demand by governments and organisations in all sectors for analysts with a rigorous training in wellbeing. It is worldwide unique, being the first comprehensive Summer School training in the science of wellbeing and its application to policy design, appraisal, and evaluation. Key topics include: - What are happiness and wellbeing? - Wellbeing in theory - Evidence on the causes and consequences of wellbeing - Behavioural scientific phenomena uniquely captured by wellbeing: anticipation and misprediction (mistakes), adaptation to changing life circumstances, relative comparisons (jealousy), and procedural utility (fairness and dignity) - Wellbeing across individuals and societies - Data, measurement, and survey design - Wellbeing policy appraisal i: cost-benefit analysis - Wellbeing policy appraisal ii: cost-effectiveness analysis - Wellbeing policy evaluation - Social welfare - Wellbeing interventions - Embedding wellbeing into the policy-making process - Wellbeing as the ultimate goal? By the end of this course, students will have a firm understanding of the science of wellbeing and how to apply it to policy-making. They will be able to conduct cutting-edge policy analysis using wellbeing data, in line with official UK Government guidelines, and be qualified to work in analytical positions involving wellbeing and other social impacts data.
