  • Does mortar colour and type matter? 🎨 Mortar constitutes 15% to 17% of the visible surface of a wall, influenced by the bond pattern. Consequently, the colour of the mortar plays a vital role in shaping the overall aesthetic of a building. Remarkably, the same brick can evoke an entirely different visual impact when paired with distinct mortar colours. It is imperative to choose a mortar colour that harmonises with the surrounding built environment, particularly when repointing existing brickwork. We encourage you to experiment with various mortar colours during the selection process. This hands-on approach will ensure that the final result not only meets your expectations but also elevates the beauty and character of your project. #Mortar #Bricks #ArchitectureDesign #wienerbergerUK

  • On this Global Recycling Day, we want to emphasise the importance of recycling as a crucial component of the circular economy, which helps protect our natural resources. We believe in a comprehensive approach to circular initiatives that extends beyond recycling. Why is this important? Designing products and services with a whole lifecycle approach, facilitating building deconstruction and material reuse, will reduce our impact on the environment. Our ambition for 2030 is to have integrated circular economy principles into our business model by designing out waste across the whole product lifecycle. How will we make this happen? ✔️ We will seek partnerships with organisations who challenge the status quo of a linear economy. ✔️ To support the development of a circular economy for our current product range, we will publish customer deconstruction and reuse guidance for each product category. ✔️ We are reintroducing secondary raw materials from internal and external sources into the production processes after thorough quality checks. ✔️ We are reducing our consumption of virgin raw materials through our business operations. ✔️ We will design new products to be reusable or recyclable at the end of their service life. #Recycling #WasteManagement #CircularEconomy #wienerbergerUK

  • We’re excited to announce the installation of our first waymarker QR posts at Mouselow Quarry, which supplies shale to our Denton factory. 📍 These QR posts have been placed at both ends of the public footpath adjacent to the quarry, as well as near a memorial bench located at the southern end of the site. By scanning the QR code, visitors can access instant information about the quarry that may be of interest to the public, including: ✔️ Working plans ✔️ Planning and restoration efforts ✔️ Site operations and history ✔️ Safety information ✔️ Ecology and sustainability practices ✔️ Public right-of-way maps We plan to roll out similar QR posts across all active quarry sites where the public has a right-of-way. This initiative aims to help visitors better understand our operations, ensure their safety, and learn about our commitment to these sites. If you’re in the area, be sure to scan the QR code and explore the information for yourself! #PublicSafety #SustainabilityPractices #wienerbergerUK

  • On a quiet street in London, Six Columns showcases how our Staffordshire Smooth Brown brick can contribute to architecture that is both personally expressive and contextually sensitive. Recognised with a 2024 Brick Development Association (BDA) Brick Award, the judges praised the thoughtful selection of clay materials, noting that they significantly enhanced the overall design from the street perspective. This home, designed for a director of 31/44 Architects, exemplifies how careful material choices can transform a building’s character as one approaches it -transitioning from a friendly street presence to a richly detailed personal statement. The success of Six Columns lies in the sophisticated use of materials and scale. Our Staffordshire Smooth Brown brick serves as a precise plinth at ground level, with its sharp wire-cut finish creating a strong foundation that firmly anchors the building to its site. We are delighted to share that we're the latest company to sign a deal with The Pallet LOOP, the circular economy pallet reuse scheme for the construction industry. From early April, green reusable LOOP pallets, loaded with our Sandtoft roofing tiles, will enter the building materials supply chain – delivering multiple environmental and financial benefits to roofing distributors, merchants, housebuilders and Tier 1 contractors. Explaining more, Kevin Perkins, our Director of Procurement, said: “This is a fantastic step forward, showing our commitment to innovation, sustainability, and smarter ways of working. Through this partnership, we’ll be making a real difference in our supply chain, ultimately reducing waste. In future, we hope to overcome some remaining technical challenges that will enable us to replace the remaining single-use pallets with Pallet LOOP pallets across our UK & Ireland businesses.” To learn more about The Pallet LOOP and to read the full article, please follow the link in the comments. 👇 #CircularEconomy #SustainabilityInConstruction #wienerbergerUK

Today marks International Women’s Day - a powerful moment to celebrate the remarkable achievements of women worldwide and recognise the journey towards true gender equality. This day is about honouring women's successes and challenging biases, driving meaningful change, and ensuring equality across every industry, including our own. The construction and manufacturing sectors, traditionally viewed as male-dominated, are experiencing a transformative shift. More women are stepping into the industry and taking on roles in engineering, project management, leadership, and beyond. By overcoming ongoing challenges and fostering a workplace where everyone can thrive, we create a better future for all. Earlier this week, aligned with International Women’s Day, our colleagues dedicated their Volunteering Day to impactful causes as well as engaged with women and girls eager to pursue careers in construction. Rachel Hughes, our Director of Marketing, inspired young women at the 'Career in Construction' event hosted by Vistry Group and ForHousing, sharing insights about her journey in marketing for a leading construction solutions provider. We also eagerly anticipate the International Women’s Day Speaker Event on Monday, hosted by our ‘wienerberger together’ network. Featuring Dana James-Edwards, Head of Fairness, Inclusion, and Respect at Action Sustainability and The Supply Chain Sustainability School (UK), this event will unveil vital data, real stories, and actionable steps to dismantle barriers in our industry. Together, let’s forge a more inclusive future - one where talent, not stereotypes, defines success! #InternationalWomensDay #WomerInConstruction #GenderEquality #wienerbergerUK
