Updates

  • 🦇 Seeing is believing: Ivi Szaboova MSc MCIEEM witnessed a conservation success story that proves well-designed mitigation really works. A winter compliance check revealed a lesser horseshoe bat has made its home in our carefully designed hibernaculum. But that's not all - the compensation loft is showing extensive evidence of bat activity, with distinctive droppings suggesting multiple species have moved in. Most exciting? The outbuildings we modified are now prime hunting grounds, scattered with butterfly and moth wings - the tell-tale signature of long-eared bats. This is why attention to detail matters in ecological mitigation. When we create the right conditions, wildlife will return. Who else has seen success stories in their mitigation projects? Would love to hear your experiences. #WildlifeConservation #Biodiversity #EcologicalConsultancy #BatConservation #WildwoodEcology

  • Do you need a degree to be a Consultant Ecologist? 🤔 This is a question we've been discussing a lot at Wildwood Ecology recently as we are seeking candidates to join us, and I'd love to hear your thoughts. The traditional path often assumes a degree is essential, but is it? Here's what we're seeing in practice: Degree advantages: • Strong theoretical foundation in ecological principles and scientific methods • Structured learning of key concepts and terminology • Research skills and analytical thinking development • Networking opportunities and academic connections • Exposure to various ecological specialties Practical experience advantages: • Hands-on species identification skills • Real-world survey technique proficiency • Project management experience • Client communication abilities • Problem-solving in varied field conditions • Deep understanding of local ecosystems What matters most? We believe it's the combination of knowledge, skills, and passion for ecology that makes an exceptional consultant - regardless of how these were acquired. That's why our current Consultant Ecologist position lists a degree as 'desirable' but not 'essential'. We're more interested in your capabilities, experience, and enthusiasm for protecting biodiversity. What's your take? Have you seen successful ecological consultants without degrees? Or do you believe formal education is irreplaceable? Join us: https://lnkd.in/eJb956Vf #Ecology #Careers #Biodiversity #InclusiveHiring #Sustainability

  • Planning a development project? Winter is the perfect time for BS5837 tree surveys 🌳 While many think tree surveys are best done in summer, winter actually offers distinct advantages: - Clearer view of tree structure and form - Easier assessment of structural defects - Better visibility of crown architecture - More efficient survey completion Our BS5837 tree surveys provide essential information for your planning application, including: 1. Detailed Tree Survey Schedule (TSS) 2. Comprehensive Tree Constraints Plan (TCP) 3. Root Protection Area calculations 4. Tree categorization (A, B, C, or U) 5. Professional recommendations for tree protection Working from your topographical survey, we'll help you understand: - Which trees are worth retaining - Development constraints and opportunities - Protection measures needed - Impact on your design layout Don't let tree issues delay your planning application. Early assessment helps avoid costly design changes later. Get in touch with our Principal Arboriculturist Misho Baxendale MCIEEM, MArborA to discuss your BS5837 requirements. #TreeSurvey #BS5837 #Planning #Development #Arboriculture #SustainableDevelopment

  • Who said winter tree identification can't be fun? 🌳 Our team are preparing an interactive learning session, armed with a collection of twigs and boundless curiosity. While most people see bare branches in winter, arboriculturists and ecologists see a world of distinctive features waiting to be discovered. Why does winter tree ID matter? - Essential for accurate BS5837 tree surveys - Crucial for winter ecological assessments - Vital for woodland management planning - Key skill for heritage landscape projects But beyond the technical benefits, these team learning sessions create something special. They spark discussions, encourage knowledge sharing, and yes – there's usually some friendly competition about who can identify the tricky specimens! Building expertise isn't just about formal training – it's about creating spaces where our team can learn together, share experiences, and grow professionally while having fun. #ProfessionalDevelopment #Arboriculture #TeamLearning #Ecology #WildwoodEcology #TreeID
