Hot off the press 🗞️ Huge shoutout to our Principal Hydrologist, Emily Trill, who has been featured in Homebuilding & Renovating Show Magazine discussing the implications of buying a house in a flood risk area 🏠 ↳ 6.3 million homes in England are located in areas at risk of flooding ↳ If you buy a home in a flood risk area, the sellers may have taken action to mitigate risks (i.e. flood doors, flood barriers, self-closing air bricks, non-return valves). ↳ Local authorities should also establish early warning systems, alerting residents in flood-prone areas and providing them with timely information.

Under the Microscope 🔬🦐 Our marine team has been busy processing samples with plenty of Caprella equilibra. Compared to typical amphipod shrimps, Caprellids have a reduced number of limbs, and the segments of their body are elongated, as are the limbs of many species. Huge congratulations to Dr James Booty, who has recently been featured in Nuse discussing the impact of declining hedgerows in the UK 🌳 👉 He reveals that in 2023, only 14% of important habitats for wildlife were in a good ecological state.  👉 Hedgerows, vital for wildlife and environmental health, have faced large-scale removal and mismanagement, particularly due to intensive farming, neglect, and development. 👉 Hedgerows support a wide range of species, from plants to invertebrates, birds, and mammals like hedgehogs and badgers. Under the Microscope 🔬🐌 This species of Gastropoda, Trivia monacha, is commonly referred to as the Spotted Cowrie due to its three distinct spots on its shell's upper surface.
