Great words Katherine, thank you and, please join Olivia on the day at FANUC Open House Event for her discussion and insights.
Last week I had the pleasure of attending the WISE 2024 conference to celebrate their 40th anniversary of continuous work towards gender parity in STEM, representing Amazon the networking partner of this event! I spent the day alongside leading Women in STEM, EDI champions and Allies and had the chance to listen to some highly inspirational and educational speakers and panels, sharing their journeys and thoughts on how to improve inclusion and diversity within the STEM space. I was honoured to join HRH The Princess Royal as Patron of WISE in a photo opportunity and listen to HRH deliver a truly powerful speach to commorate this achivement. With 26% of Women making up the current STEM workforce I thoroughly enjoy any and every opportunity presented to network and support the fellow Women in the industry! Days like this and organisations like WISE are essential in driving the change and support the inclusion of Women in this sector. Thank you Emma Swinscoe and Taylor Mirkarimi for inviting me to help promote Amazon with you! Congratulations WISE for hosting such a successful event and coordinating the amazing speakers and breakout sessions I attended! We were honoured to welcome our Patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal The Royal Family, alongside leading women in STEM and EDI champions at our annual conference to celebrate 40 years of moving the dial towards gender parity in the sector. Her Royal Highness met with our members and conference exhibitors to learn more about our mission to pioneer gender equity. We were delighted to showcase the work we’ve achieved in our 40-year history – as well as demonstrating the dedication and passion from the wider sector to make a real change in ensuring more girls and women find a future in STEM-related careers. We wanted to bring together the STEM industry to inspire and influence organisations and their employees to build an inclusive workplace for women in the sector. We welcomed expert speakers to share their thoughts and experiences across a variety of topics such as allyship, women’s health and inclusive leadership. With 26% of women making up the current STEM workforce this remains the biggest and largest untapped talent pool in the sector – and as the engineering skills deficit widens, we need to increase the pace of change. Dr Laura Norton, WISE Managing Director said: “For over 40 years, WISE has been at the forefront of advancing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) in the UK, working to achieve gender parity across STEM fields through research, outreach, and collaboration with both organisations and individuals. The Princess Royal’s attendance highlights the significance of our mission and reinforces our commitment to supporting women in STEM – past, present, and future. We were delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness to our event, and would like to thank her for her continued support.” Keep an eye out for the full conference report which will be released soon. Thank you to our sponsors, exhibitors, and delegates, Skipton Building Society, NatWest Group, AWE, Amazon, Altos Labs, Bloody Good Employers, Canterbury Christ Church University, Capgemini, Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), Victoria Dale DEI, Elissa Dobson - Workplace Menopause Training, Nineteen Group, SheCanEngineer Committee, Anouska Carling, STEM Returners and Steps Drama Learning Development. #WISE #WISEConference2024

This afternoon our Young Professionals Board (YPB) is sharing experiences as part of a ‘shadow board’ and the successes that come from initiatives like these. They’re diving into the benefits of creating platforms where diverse colleagues can come together, enabling businesses to hear a range of perspectives and lived experiences. The YPB will also provide insights on how to set up boards like the WISE Young Professionals and the powerful impact this can have on the development and progression of young talent within an organisation. Exciting discussions ahead! 💡 #WISEAnnualConference2024 #YoungProfessionals

This afternoon at our WISE Annual Conference, we had an inspiring panel session with insightful speakers addressing the barriers women still face in STEM - and how we can overcome them. 🔹Kate Bellingham explored the progress made in encouraging girls and women to pursue STEM careers. She stressed the importance of seeing individuals as whole people - not just labels or genders. 🔹Dr. Zaheer Ahmad spoke about Allyship, highlighting the importance of acknowledgement, self-improvement, and proactive support. 🔹Professor Fiona Clark emphasised the importance of role models, sharing personal stories of inspiration. Her key advice: look for the positives, trust your instincts, challenge yourself, and always be true to who you are. A huge thank you to all our speakers for sharing their wisdom and inspiration! #WISEAnnualConference2024 #WomenInSTEM
