SheCanEngineer was proud to support the WISE Awards this week, with representation on the judging panel for the Most Outstanding Woman in Engineering Award. It was an inspiring evening which celebrated the incredible achievements of women in engineering, with a special appearance by Princess Anne, who continues to show extensive support for women in STEM. Events like these highlight the talent, innovation, and impact that women bring to the industry, and we are delighted to be part of this important recognition. Congratulations to all the finalists and winners!
We had the incredible privilege of welcoming our Patron, Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal, to our WISE Awards 2025 last night – an evening dedicated to celebrating the pioneering individuals driving gender equity in STEM. ✨ These Awards were created to recognise and reward the dedication, success, and impact of individuals and organisations working to increase the number of women in the UK STEM workforce. These changemakers are not just moving the dial – they’re reshaping the future. We’re delighted to announce this year’s winners, who received their Awards from Her Royal Highness: • The Princess Royal’s WISE Lifetime Achievement Award: Professor Elena Rodríguez Falcón FREng PFHEA FIET FCMI 🌈 • The Princess Royal’s WISE Rising Star Award: 💫 Lella Violet Halloum FRSA, MBCS • Nurturing New Talent Award: Laura Fogg Rogers, University of the West of England • Outstanding Woman in Engineering Award: Sarah Badesha, Chivas Brothers • Outstanding Woman in Science Award: Catherine Ross, The Scottish Government • Outstanding Woman in Technology Award: Sharan Johnstone, University of South Wales • STEM Ally Award: Paul Williams, Bloomberg LP • STEM Returner Award: Maria Holloway-Strong, AtkinsRéalis • Outreach and Engagement Award: Julie Feest, Engineering Development Trust and Industrial Cadets • Women’s Wellbeing at Work Award: Network Rail • EDI Organisation of the Year Award: AtkinsRéalis With only 26% of the STEM workforce made up of women, this remains the largest inequality in the sector. As the engineering skills gap widens, accelerating progress is more important than ever. Our mission is to create a culture where women in STEM are recognised, valued, and celebrated, inspiring the next generation to follow in their footsteps. The presence of Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal highlights the significance of this mission and reaffirms our commitment to supporting women in STEM – past, present, and future. A huge congratulations to all our winners, nominees, and sponsors who are shaping a more inclusive, innovative, and diverse STEM future. Pfizer, Northrop Grumman, BAE Systems, The ERA Foundation, Amazon, BDO, ECITB, GCHQ, STEM Returners, and Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). #WISEawards #WomenInSTEM #STEMequity

It’s been a busy end-of-year period here at SheCanEngineer! We've been wrapping up a year of activities and events, which is why we've been a little quiet on LinkedIn lately but stay tuned to see lots more from us in 2025! Before our volunteers take a well deserved break, we wanted to share more about last month's event at Imperial College London. We hosted an AMA (Ask Me Anything!) evening in collaboration with the Women in SET and Design Engineering Societies to give engineering students a chance to ask questions which ranged from "how do I stay up to date with technical innovations?" to "how do I find out about the culture of a company and how they treat women before joining?" The event was filled with insightful discussions, both during the panel and at the networking afterwards, and our speakers provided valuable answers to the wide range of questions asked (stay tuned for more on this from us in the new year!). It was an incredible opportunity to learn more about the real-life experiences of engineers and explore both the challenges and rewards of the profession. A massive thank you to our sponsors and inspirational speakers for making this event possible: 💡 Trigon Fire Safety 💡 STEMAZING 💡 Frazer-Nash Consultancy 🌟 Sally Hall 🌟 Dr. Shini Somara 🌟 Alexandra Knight 🌟 Irene de Lezcano-Mujica Gonzalez Together, we’re building a more inclusive and informed future for engineering! #EngineeringCommunity #DiversityInSTEM #SheCanEngineer SheCanEngineer Committee
