Supporting women's movements to change the world.

About us

- 1 in 3 women experience violence, with domestic violence the most common - Globally, women make up just 23% of parliamentarians - Women spend at least twice as much time as men on domestic work, and when all work - paid and unpaid - is considered, women work longer hours than men We are working to change this. Womankind Worldwide is a global women’s rights organisation working in partnership with women’s rights organisations and movements to transform the lives of women and girls. We believe in the power of women to change their own lives. Together with women’s rights organisations and movements, we work towards… • An end to all forms of violence against women and girls • Women’s economic rights and control over resources • Women’s equal influence in decision making and ability to exercise political power. Womankind strengthens and supports women’s rights organisations and movements by providing the tools and resources they need to change the lives of women, in the home, the workplace and the communities they live in. We build successful projects, amplify women’s voices and share what’s working. We also take collective action with women’s movements at international level.

The rescinding of the Rwanda Asylum law by the new prime minister is a great win for all women and girls who faced potential negative impacts from the policy. As we welcome the new prime minister, we also urge him to champion and prioritize the safety, security, and vision of gender equality in all policy discussions and decisions. https://lnkd.in/dsCDgDkD

Disability Pride Month is celebrated every July and we would like to share the work of Nepal Disabled Women's Association, one of our partners through Sokita, a skilled tailor and a mother to a daughter with disability, "NDWA has brought a lot of change in my life. It is difficult for children with disabilities, but it is even more so for their parents. Children with disabilities are not treated as human beings, they are not allowed to interact with other children and my daughter has faced this kind of treatment. There is a lot of discrimination. Children will not come to play and my daughter says she does not have any friends. It is difficult for her and for me also when I have to hear this. " Read more of her story here https://lnkd.in/d4ujaVWm

As the 56th session of the UN Human Rights gains momentum, here's a reminder of the crisis in Afghanistan: ✅ Afghanistan is the only country in the world where girls have been denied the right to secondary school education. 1000 days of secondary school closure has seen 1.5 million girls out of school ✅ The state of the rights of women and girls has become a 'boardroom issue' coopting the voices of Afghan women human rights defenders, activists and civil society organisations Together with our Afghanistan partners we call on the following: ✅ The upcoming Doha talks from 29th June- 1st July must be held within a human rights framework with the participation of Afghan civil society organisations, human rights defenders, young people and activists. This should not be another 'board-room' meeting process following demands from the Taliban. ✅ Inclusivity and representation is important. An international agenda should strive to reinforce solidarity with women and girls by ensuring their meaningful participation is not left out ✅ We echo the remarks of the Special Rapporteur to Afghanistan who is calling on States to make ''Gender Apartheid- a crime against humanity''
