When was the last time you tweeted? Twitter (now X) used to be the most open app. Now many people are engaging with it less if at all. Since it was taken over the app has changed removing blue ticks and charging for Twitter Blue. Less ability to opt out of topics you find troubling. And yet X was the journalists go to for stories, contacts and sharing stories or sourcing exclusives. What does the change in ownership of X mean for journalists and PRs? Where will we gather for all the above? That's the question to be discussed by our outgoing Deputy Chair Genelle Aldred. With special guests Hardeep Matharu, Eva Akase Simpson, Ellie Mcdonald and Barnaby Barron. This session is being hosted Cision UK offices and you can get your tickets here. After the panel discussion will be the opportunity to network with other journalists and some PRs. This event is open to members and non-members: https://lnkd.in/eC58rZV9

Tax returns are part of every freelance journalist's year. The 31st of January can cause some to panic, especially if you are new to freelancing. Around 700 women participate in Women In Journalism’s mentoring scheme - that is an impressive number! ⭐️ This is an organisation that does a great deal to help launch and grow female talent in journalism and I was honoured to attend their Christmas party hosted at ITN Business this evening. It was a pleasure to hear from Women In Journalism’s new Chair Rachel Corp FRSA who will build on the important work of her predecessors Alison Phillips and Eleanor Mills, as she steers the organisation towards further success. I have been watching their work and their research with great interest over the years. We need more women in journalism and particularly senior leadership roles. Their mentoring programme is now open - check it out! #WomenInJournalism Seahorse Freight Association Genelle Aldred Augusta Anthony Kimberley Hackett Jennifer Mawby Isabel Togoh Blossom Martins (ANIPR) #Journalism #Careers #Leadership #Christmas2023 Kate McMillan Walkers Crisps UK Tesco

Did you know that women make up 40 per cent of journalists in the UK but just 22 per cent of senior editors? According to research by Reuters Institute and University of Oxford, there has been no greater trend towards gender parity in senior editorial roles in the last three years. That’s why mentor programs and organisations like Women In Journalism are so important. It was great to attend Women In Journalism’s Christmas event at ITN studios last night and chat to so many inspiring women across the industry doing amazing things. Their mentor scheme is now open and accepting applications. Link below!

On a splendid evening dedicated to celebrating Women In Journalism the atmosphere was adorned with warmth and elegance. Amidst abundant wine and delightful finger foods, these hardworking women, who tirelessly contribute to the bustling world of news, gathered to unwind and revel in each other's company😁😁👏👏👏👏. From the hectic newsroom activities to television appearances and the constant rhythm of writing articles, we reflected on a demanding year. The year itself unfolded with significant events—Two British prime ministers, The passing and burial of Queen Elizabeth II, The ascent of a new king, and a continuous stream of new policies. It truly was a rollercoaster.🥺🥺🥺😪😪 This gathering provided a perfect opportunity for us dedicated professional women to relax, connect with our sisters from various broadcast stations and media platforms, and engage in laughter, conversations, and valuable networking. The evening commenced with a heartfelt speech from our new chair, Rachel Corp, highlighting upcoming events and mentoring initiatives for young journalists. Rachel commended everyone for their hard work, encouraging them to savor the evening without holding back—a sentiment that was wholeheartedly embraced 👏👏👏👏👏. In the company of fellow journalists from the BBC, ITV, news24, and numerous other media outlets, the night unfolded beautifully. The joy, captured in photos taken by yours truely (ME)🤭😁, reflects a memorable time spent together. Tagging all my sisters in the shared pictures, pls pass on the gesture by tagging another sister to retrieve her snapshots. It was a night of camaraderie and shared experiences, beautifully encapsulated in the hope for more gatherings in the future for all of us. Thanks to Jessica Harriott-Kerr for such an amazing job yesterday, you are truly phenomenal. Cheers to the amazing women in journalism!
