‘I really need to have a chat with you’ Was Jamie’s opening line to me back in late 2022. We’d met at a networking event - something in my 60 second pitch resonated with him, he knew he needed to make some changes and he had a gut feeling that I could help. Back then Jamie was running a company that, whilst passionate about, was draining him. He’d fallen into eating and lifestyle habits that had him in a downward spiral. Slowly we made changes. He embraced each one. We had to take a break for a while as Jamie had a few really personal painful months (which he talks about openly). But as soon has he was able - he came back to pick up where we’d left off. Over that difficult time, Jamie’s perspective on life really shifted. Finally HE became his top priority and that's when things really went up a gear! Jamie is now maintaining his 2 stone weightloss beautifully. 👊 He was brave enough to walk away from his old company and launch his new business. He is now a mental health coach to business owners. And he’s flying! He’s already helped (possibly saved) so many people. It was so lovely to bump into Jamie yesterday at the Sterling Expo where he was exhibiting. He had by far the best stand (and they were all good!). He simply had lots self help books, from business and leadership to mindset and purpose. He didn’t need chocolates and cakes to draw people to him (🤦♀️) his warm smile and very different stand did the job perfectly. And my favourite bit - he’s designed a note pad which he gives to clients to help with daily habits - it includes some of the crucial basics that we discussed all those months ago. It was fantastic to be part of this amazing mans transformation. I couldn't be more proud. And if you’re worried about a business owner who is going though a tough time right now (or indeed that sounds like you)….there are people who can help - Jamie wants to talk to them/you.

🎃 It's Halloween so let's talk about something scary... Fear of the unknown Fear of losing something good Fear of failure These are all things which can be associated with making a professional change - whether that is a switch in career, changing up existing policies and structures, introducing something new... I myself went through a career change before stepping into law, and that came with a huge time and money commitment. The opportunity arose and I found myself leaving colleagues I liked, and a career path I had thought for a long time would be mine to journey. How could I know whether it would be worth it? What if I wasn't any good? Long answer short - I couldn't know. I couldn't guarantee I wouldn't simply crash and burn. BUT - I also wouldn't have known otherwise, and I'd always be wondering...what if? "Change is inevitable; growth is optional" - John C Maxwell Taking a leap is scary, but regardless of the outcome, there are always positives to take away from it: learning new skills, establishing a safe environment to share, opening the dialogue for change, growing in confidence, learning from your mistakes and celebrating new opportunities. If your organisation puts a blanket policy in place… …it’s a WARNING that a more subtle issue exists! I had the pleasure of speaking at WorkStory on Wednesday, and shone a light on where the audience spends their time - and the three reasons it often goes in the wrong places. It was real eye-opener - especially when one audience member said their organisation was considering banning ALL INTERNAL EMAIL because so much time seems to be lost there. Banning all internal email (not some…ALL) is bonkers!! What if sending an internal email is the most appropriate and efficient way to communicate a message? Perhaps people just don’t know how to use Cc and Bcc, or have forgotten how to have a simple conversation (in person or over the phone). The only reason a blanket policy is used is when an organisation is trying to solve a problem it doesn’t really understand. This is treating the symptom and not the cause. So, if your organisation is considering a bold new blanket policy, this is a warning that a deeper routed problem is at play. STOP and THINK…what’s the real problem here? Time to recap on yet another great WorkStory event…. ⏰ Yesterday we welcomed Paul Holbrook to the stage, creator of Diary Detox® where we were taken on a journey to discover how we could get a day back in our calendars each week! 📅 From a personal and from a professional stance we were all very excited to see how this magic was created, and it certainly did not disappoint 🪄 “If you don’t make the time, you will never have the time” A profound and captivating talk not only enabled us to sit down and consider how we all spend our time but also allowed us to discuss with one another how this impacts our wellbeing and overall happiness ✅ We certainly felt very privileged to of been part of this brilliant discussion that provided food for thought (whilst we tucked into some delicious pastries) and allowed us to pause time for a moment and truly reflect on how we choose to spend our time ⌛ Who knew that one event could have such a positive and life changing impact? 🤔Time is such a precious thing, and Paul's talk gave us all an insight into how we can approach things slightly differently and achieve some incredible results 🩵 Thank you again to Paul and to our wonderful attendees, it was great to see everyone and be part of this impactful discussion 👏 Who will be joining us next month for another insightful talk?
