World Architecture Festival is where the world architecture community meets to celebrate learn, exchange and be inspired. It is the only architecture event where keynote talks from the industry’s most influential figures sit alongside live crit presentations and judging of over 500 award finalists, global networking, a strong gallery and an international product exhibition.

  • ☀️🏖️ Fun, Sun, Sea and Sand! The #WAF25 Student Charrette theme is inspired by the festival’s debut edition in Miami – and entries are now open! Student teams from around the world are given the chance to get creative and follow this year’s brief to design a visitor attraction, tourist facility, or building for a seaside or lakeside location of their choice where people can enjoy themselves. The Charrette, which is supported by Broadway Malyan, offers architecture students a unique opportunity to present their concepts live to WAF attendees and a panel of expert judges.   • Demonstrating architecture’s ability to critically engage with cultural, religious and political issues, Küçükçekmece Djemevi by EAA-Emre Arolat Architecture won the WAF 2024 Future Project of the Year award (Civic). This inclusive civic space in Istanbul was envisioned to combat social exclusion and provide a comforting and inviting environment for the Alevi community. The building itself comprises a series of interconnected spaces and structures that form a complex topography.   • Tying together the spirit of pop art, community, and Sichuan cuisine, Office AIO was awarded the World Interior of the Year award at #WAF24 for its playful and considered design of Pang Mei Noodle Bar in Beijing. A roller shutter, terrazzo patios and flexible double-sided window seats all characterise the restaurant, which is situated in an art and cultural-focused neighbourhood in the city.   • Small in size but big on impact! The Small Project of the Year 2024 was awarded to Fushi by Tezuka Architects, nestled to the west of Mount Joyama in Japan 🇯🇵 The compact timber building is carefully designed with highly skilled modern engineering, with its eaves held in place by a steel-framed structure. It rises 1.5 metres from the floor, designed to match the eye level of the average Japanese person. WAF’s special prizes are awarded to projects who enter into the main WAF awards and all finalists will go on to compete at the live judging in Miami this year!
