This week marks #EURegionsWeek, an annual four-day event during which cities and regions across Europe showcase their capacity to create growth and jobs, facilitating cooperation and networking between regions and cities. Our recent report, ‘Scotland’s Circular Economy Practices Ecosystem’ acts as a starting point for a journey towards improving the conditions for the adoption of circular economy practices by businesses in Scotland and investigates what main barriers exists for businesses currently. Today marks national #NoDisposableCupDay and we want to encourage everyone to #ChooseToReuse. The Net Zero Scotland consultation on a charge for single-use disposable beverage cups is now live and we want to encourage businesses and their customers to switch to reusable cups. During our Ditching Disposables Stirling pilot with Green Gain Ltd and Transition Stirling, businesses in Stirling participated in a deposit-based reusable cup trial where customers could return the cup to any participating business once finished with their cup and get a refund for their deposit. The trial resulted in a total of 17,800 single-use cups displaced and a combined total cost saving of £2,225 for the businesses involved.
