  • We’ve now completed trials of IVECO‘s 7.2 Tonne Electric Vehicle Tipper, across our Shropshire, Birmingham and London road maintenance contracts. Here’s ‘Watt’ we learnt…! 💡 ⛽ Across the 1,155km (718 miles) covered during the vehicle’s 4 months with us, there was an estimated Greenhouse Gas emission reduction of around 162kgCO2e (compared to diesel use) 🚚 The 190-mile range proved itself sufficient for daily tasks and received positive feedback from our teams too 🔋 A 130kw battery with a 7kw charger takes c.20 hours to charge, which could see shorter charging times through a commercial 22kw charger. The trial supported our research to continually advance our fleet, depot and charging infrastructure We learnt a lot from the trial and continue to explore ways to cut carbon across our operations, with the support of our wider supply chain partners 🙌 #sustainability #trial #testing #EV

    • An image of an IVECO electric tipper van, charging via electric cable, with the text underneath: Carbon cutting journey continues with electric tipper trials
  • We recently co-hosted an event with Somerset Council to explore ways to decarbonise fleet operations – which was joined by over 70 highways and transport experts, all on this same mission. From blue light services, to freight organisations - we were united in our efforts to drive down our carbon emissions and explore infrastructure options, to unlock benefits for fleet operators across the region. 🚚 Attendees discussed a range of case studies of cutting-edge transport decarbonisation technologies. We shared our research, and invited voices from across the industry including WSP, MHTech and Gregory Group. The group shared thoughts on commercial and logistical barriers to decarbonisation, and ideas for how to overcome them through effective collaborations, more sustainable energy provision and fleet advancements. Our next steps will be to host working groups to see how we can take some of this valuable insight further. Watch the video below to hear what they thought about the event! 👇 #sustainability #fuels #infrastructure #transport #carbon #decarbonise

  • If we could sum this week up in three words? Celebration 🙌 Collaboration 🤝 and Innovation 💡    Kicking off the week, we joined Kier Group in celebrating three cohorts coming to the end on our Raising leaders development programme - which was sponsored by our work winning director at Transportation, Helen Taylor. In partnership with Cranfield School of Management, the Raising Leaders programme provides our future leaders with the tools to succeed in their career 🚀 The event was packed full of engaging and inspiring conversations.   Then yesterday, in Birmingham, colleagues from across Transportation teams took part in an innovation workshop hosted by Growthinnk. An extremely interactive day, where colleagues worked in groups to challenge the barriers of innovation, and took part in a problem mapping exercise - contributing ideas of their own and reflecting on what they learned throughout the day could be applied to future business plans 🤔💭   Meanwhile in Shropshire, over 150 people attended the contract's stand down day, hosted by general manager Ian McLellan at Shrewsbury Town Football club ⚽ The day consisted of thought-provoking presentations highlighting safety, business performance and aims for the rest of the year along with guest speaker, Patrick from Musgrove and Ball who focused on the impact of hidden addiction and alcohol problems in the workplace.   It's been a jam-packed week, spent encouraging future growth and new ways of thinking! #BoldandFutureFocused #SupplyChainCollaboration

  • Our Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM (EKFB) Joint-Venture team continue their track-record with yet another record-breaking #HS2 engineering feat! Last week saw Small Dean viaduct’s 4,500-tonne deck slid into place over the top of the A413 and the Chiltern Mainline… The operation, which took four days, required a precise launch technique that involved sliding pads and a 450-tonne cable jack - making it the heaviest and longest single-stage viaduct deck slide on the whole HS2 project so far! 🥇 Thanks to our teams and partners meticulous planning, the deck slide was delivered months ahead of schedule – originally due to complete this summer 📅 Check out the inspiring timelapse here 👇 https://lnkd.in/gxxPrc7R #engineering #record #infrastructure #rail

  • We’re proud to share the specialist skills of our Whitley Bay metro station team with the wider seaside town! Working with client Nexus, our teams volunteered their time to give The Whitley Bay Hub on Whitley Road a restoration of its own. Over three days, the team painted and decorated the community space - to create a warmer, tidier space for group activities conferences and meetings – as well as donating goods. The Hub is home to a café, garden, meeting rooms and a food bank – and is run by local charity, Whitley Bay Big Local. Its chief executive, David Carnaffan, said: “The room has been brightened up, with a new colour scheme and they even updated our windowsills. The volunteers worked very hard over Christmas and New Year, coming in on evenings and Saturdays to get the job finished before we welcomed our groups and activities back in this January.” The project will be a boost for the community and comes soon after the recent canopy reveal at the Grade II listed station, which shows the restoration in all its glory. The completion of the station work is expected later in Spring. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/ePCuWQEH #rail #volunteering #community #socialvalue #northeast

  • When we first shared Etches Park Depot with you all, the engagement took off almost as fast as the new Aurora fleet of trains that we were upgrading the depot for! The depot is a strategic servicing location for East Midlands Railway's intercity fleet and provides a base to fuel, clean, maintain and stable their trains. Our role in the Etches Park Infrastructure Upgrade (EPIU) was to help facilitate the arrival of the new Hitachi Class 810 fleet of trains (also known as the Aurora fleet) with infrastructure improvements across the site. From the extension to the North Shed featuring a heavy-duty maintenance pit with jacks and cranes, to upgraded systems along the fuelling roads and even an overhead electrical test track of approximately 200 metres with a new generator and other associated infrastructure – there was so much to share with this one. So, if you’ve got a spare moment, satisfy the need for some more rail content with our latest case study which talks about the project in a bit more depth. Access it through the comments below 👇 #rail #depot #infrastructure #trains
