Across Greater Manchester, rail services may soon start to see longer trains with more seats thanks to the work of our teams in the region… Network Rail appointed us to extend the length of the platforms at several stations which are primarily served by Northern, as well as Transport for Wales and TransPennine Express too. After overcoming challenges with the track alignment and the track bed, we’ve now successfully completed the commissioning of five platforms at three of the stations: Mauldeth Road, East Didsbury and Gately; all located between Manchester Piccadilly and Manchester Airport. The platforms are made of modular steel, built on CHS pile foundations and have been designed to accommodate up to six carriage trains. Boguslaw Kozlowski, project manager, said: “We’ve been working on this project since January 2022 and it’s only through the collaborative and pragmatic approach of Network Rail and our supply chain that we’ve been able to deliver this project to such a high standard with minimal disruption to services, thanks to our works outside of operating hours. “We look forward to seeing new trains with increased capacity reaching these stations – and learning how the projects have had a positive impact on people up and down the network.” Thanks to all our supply chain partners for your support as always – Harrisons Engineering (Lancashire) Ltd., Readypower Group, Orton Group Ltd and all others! #rail #infrastructure #stations #manchester

Our Transportation Senior Leadership Team, alongside colleagues from across the business recently headed to one of Bristol’s key Trussell Trust foodbank locations to get stuck into some volunteering… For just over a year, Trussell have been our charity partner, and the work they do is vital – so as well as already raising over £125,000 together, we also try to lend a few hands where possible. 💚🤝 Did you know that the run up to Christmas is one of the busiest times of year for a foodbank? It’s why support during the annual stocktake is so valuable, as our team found when they turned their hand away from the day-job of managing our projects and contracts, to shifting, weighing, and packing items that could soon be a lifeline for whoever receives the food parcel. All Kier colleagues get two days a year to volunteer for causes that matter to them – and as Mandy, our managing director for rail and aviation says: “It’s a great day… It’s really good energy, and good spirit too”. See how they got on below 👇 #volunteering #foodbank #socialvalue

It’s been one week since we were at Highways UK 2024 at the NEC in Birmingham! Working with Studio One | Large Format Print for Branded Spaces, we were focused on showcasing our theme of ‘Built by Brilliant People’, while ensuring the stand was constructed from sustainable and reusable materials. 🛠️ For anyone who visited us, you may have noticed we had no printed materials or gifts on our stand… Instead, we opted for a digital screen which showcased our people, projects and values, and decided to leave a lasting legacy through an official dedication of 30 trees to Uffmoor Wood in Halesowen near Birmingham with The Woodland Trust – a worthwhile trade-up. 🌳 🌲 Watch our video below to see the thought that went into the stand-design this year 🎬 👇 #highwaysuk #highways #event #exhibition #builtbybrilliantpeople

📣 We’ve gone and set a new HS2-wide record! In September’s National Highways Customer Audit, which assesses major road schemes’ perception from the public – Eiffage Kier Ferrovial BAM (EKFB) and Kier received an overall 99% score, which is the highest ever to be awarded on a HS2 site. This put us first place out of the 24 National Highways schemes that were assessed. National Highways also commented on our excellent site management - stating it was one of the most organised which they have seen, with a 100% score for safety, an engaged workforce and good mud control. Tim Boardman, senior project manager for Kier Transportation said: “The A43 island site is a highly constrained site with some logistical challenges. “Our primary focus has always been and will remain safety; both that of our workforce and our customers. We have developed temporary works solutions to deliver the structure whilst also endeavouring to minimise impact to the travelling public.” EKFB’s head of interfaces, Anita Solanki said: “All who work with National Highways and on the A43 are absolutely delighted with this feedback. This is an excellent example of successful collaboration as we continue to plan future activities”. #infrastructure #HS2 #roadworks #highways

We’re working for the West Midlands Combined Authority to deliver two new stations in the West Midlands. 🚈 Willenhall and Darlaston have been without stations since 1965, when they were closed. Since then, the local population has grown, and the area is being quickly regenerated. 🏡 Our work as part of the £85m investment will see improved passenger connectivity between Wolverhampton and Walsall, restoring the link which hasn’t been in place for 60 years. 🔗 Victoria Kinally, project sponsor from the West Midlands Rail Executive said: “By reinstating these stations, we’re creating faster, more efficient travel options for local residents, helping to ease road congestion and supporting the region’s regeneration. It’s exciting to see how this project will benefit the community, not just now but for years to come." We recently wrote about our work on the project, including our community involvement, and some innovative ground remediation works on the hectare of brownfield land we’re developing on… 👷 Check out our latest case study on the Kier website now – link in the comments 👇 #rail #station #infrastructure

Our highways business has become the first in the highways infrastructure sector to achieve the advancing tier of The Carbon Trust’s Route to Net Zero Standard! The Carbon Trust’s Route to Net Zero Standard is an independent assessment of an organisation’s steps towards achieving net zero. To achieve this, we were assessed across our governance, implementation, measurement and stakeholder engagement processes and activities. 📰 Hear from our head of environment and sustainability at Kier Transportation, Matt Tompsett, on what this means for our journey to reaching net-zero in the full news release linked in the comments! 👇
