📣 Industry news The government is taking steps to streamline the approval process for development on urban sites, leaning into their "brownfield first" approach. To support this, a new "brownfield passport" is in the works, which will aim to expedite approvals for development that meet design and quality standards. This new programme could support accelerated development and more efficient land use, but there are some considerations we need to keep in mind: 🔍 Limited scope: How does eligibility criteria affect consistent implementation? 🌿 Environmental concerns: Brownfield sites may require remediation to address potential contamination, which could increase development costs. 👪 Community impact: The development of brownfield sites will still need to be balanced with the needs and concerns of local communities. The government will need to ensure that the criteria for getting a brownfield passport are clear and transparent to developers. Furthermore, regulations will still need to be put in place to mitigiate any environmental risks. We look forward to seeing what more the government announces about their brownfield policy and how these new initiatives will pave the way for effective and efficient site creation. 🚨 Industry update! Mobeen Akram, New Homes Director at Mortgage Advice Bureau, said: “This latest house price data, coupled with the recent reduction in interest rates, is certainly a welcome relief for those who have been waiting for positive change in the housing market. “Though the Bank Rate reduction to 5% is good news, we may still experience a slow market over the next while, as we move through the natural summer lull.” Read more in Forbes article below! 👇 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eCHp-kcc #HousingMarket #ConstructionIndustry #NewBuilds #UKEconomy #MABNewHomes

🚨 Industry update! The construction industry is on the up and up. Do you agree? Let us know in the comments below. 📈 The UK construction sector is growing in momentum, with latest index figures jumping three points, from 52.2 in June to 55.3 in July. This marks the fifth consecutive month of expansion, and this growth is underpinned by new orders, increased staffing, and a revitalised commercial and housing market. 🔨 These figures are undoubtedly positive, but industry experts caution that lingering uncertainties around government spending could dampen future prospects. This is a promising time for the construction industry, but sustained growth will depend on a stable economic environment and continued investment in infrastructure. We'll be watching this space for more news from the government. Read more in Construction News' article below! 👇 #HousingMarket #ConstructionIndustry #NewBuilds #UKEconomy #MABNewHomes

📣 Industry update! With the King's Speech behind us and the dust settling on a new parliament, we must ask an important question. How will Labour meet the demands of a strained market? 💭 Their ethos is economic growth and more homes for the UK, but can Labour deliver? Mobeen Akram, New Homes Director for Mortgage Advice Bureau, said: "Even at these early stages, there's no doubt that the government's focus on planning as a driver of economic growth is a positive development for the industry, but Labour has an uphill climb ahead of them. "To reach that all-important 1.5m homes, we need to get off on the right foot. By pushing the need for collaboration between the government, lenders, and housebuilders, we may start to see some progress." 🔎 Check out our article to read our full thoughts on the matter and let us know what you think in the comments below. 👇 #KingsSpeech #Labour #HousingTargets #NewBuilds #HousingIndustry #Elections #MABNewHomes

📣 Industry update! Yesterday, Rachel Reeves delivered her first speech as Chancellor, vowing to increase housebuilding and "accelerate stalled housing sites." 👍 With goals in place for planning reform, and a promise from the government to support local planning offices, it appears at face value that we're moving in a positive direction. That being said, the 1.5 million home promise is going to be a challenging one to achieve, even with reform on the horizon. Labour is facing an uphill battle, and if they intend to deliver 1.5 million new homes in their parliamentary term, they will have to construct over 1,150 homes every working day for the next five years. 📋 This is a task that demands a detailed plan, one that goes beyond policy and extends into education, health, transport, and even policing. Check out the article from The Intermediary below to learn more about what might be needed and whether this goal is achievable. 👇 #PlanningReform #Housebuilding #ConstructionIndustry #NewHomes #PropertyDevelopment #Labour #Housing

🚨 Elections are coming - will there be a post-election housing boom? As parties start releasing their own visions for the housing sector, and momentum gathers for the coming elections, we wanted to take a moment to consider what the market is going to look like after July 4th and beyond. 🗨 Mobeen Akram, New Homes Director at Mortgage Advice Bureau says, "It's promising to see that housing is at the forefront of the government's mind, and we've seen a number of pledges across the board. Some of the latest, such as the Conservative's 1.6 million home promise over the next parliament, are proof that housing is not just topical, it's necessary. Labour too, have prioritised freeing up grey belt land for building. Our hope is that the interest in building new homes continues long after the election, as the industry sorely needs more support." What impact are the elections going to have on the housing market? Does consumer sentiment and market movement play a bigger role?
