Did you know that traditional rice production uses approximately 40% of the world’s irrigation water and accounts for up to 10% of global methane emissions?💧 Ahead of #WorldWaterDay tomorrow, we’re shining a spotlight on the importance of working together with farmers and partners to reduce water usage through climate-smart agriculture practices. Each country requires a tailored approach and we’re proud to share the different approaches we’re taking with farmers in the US, Thailand, Pakistan, and India. Earlier this month, some of our leaders attended the Natural Products Expo in California.   Unofficially dubbed the ‘Super Bowl’ for natural consumer products, #ExpoWest served as an energising reminder of the important role we play in delivering food that is tasty, accessible, and healthy. And the importance of staying up to speed with the latest trends to resonate with our consumers - trends like global cuisines and flavours! Two of our brands – Kevin’s Natural Foods and Tasty Bite – made their mark on the Expo showcasing their latest bold innovations that deliver on this trend. On reflection, our leaders shared, “a visit to Expo serves as a powerful reminder of the vibrancy of the food industry. Even in challenging times, food remains a source of connection and creativity”. The exhibition, which is running through to 13 April, explores the connection between soil, human life, and our planet’s future. As part of the ‘In Focus’ Zones, you can learn more about Mars Food & Nutrition’s work with rice farmers in Thailand through the Sustainable Aromatic Rice Initiative, alongside Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. By working closely with farmers, the initiative promoted sustainable rice production aligned to the Sustainable Rice Platform (SRP) Standard, with farmers benefitting from increased rice production, and reduced water usage as a result.
