We are delighted to further announce that Sophie Kemp (Public Law | Kingsley Napley team) as well as Katherine Tyler (Criminal Defence | Kingsley Napley team) alongside Kennedy Talbot KC (33 Chancery Lane) have been nominated in the GIR Awards 2024 shortlist for the 'Most Important Development of the Year', arising from NCA v World Uyghur Congress. The Kingsley Napley (including Sameera Abdulrehman) and 33 Chancery Lane team represented Spotlight on Corruption, who played a significant role as intervenor before the Court of Appeal. “A legal clash between advocates for China’s persecuted Uyghur minority and the UK’s National Crime Agency led to an appeals court ruling that punctured a common interpretation of an exemption in UK anti-money laundering laws that shields companies from liability for handling potentially illicit goods”. This will have implications for the conduct of commercial transactions, corporate acquisitions, and regulated business. The GIR Awards is an annual ceremony that celebrates the achievements of investigation lawyers and practices. Click the link to find out more: https://lnkd.in/edA2u3S4 #GIRAwards #Lawfirms #Publiclaw

On Thursday 26th September, the Public Law | Kingsley Napley team had the pleasure of co-hosting the ALBA and PULSA seminar at our Bonhill offices. The event focussed on the following topic "That which brings us together is greater than that which sets us apart? Working together as public law solicitors and barristers". Our own public law partners, Natalie Cohen and Nick W., joined the panel for an insightful discussion alongside Katherine Apps KC (39 Essex Chambers), Sarah Hannett KC (Matrix Chambers) and Aoife O'Reilly (Public Law Project). There was great audience participation which promoted a really useful dialogue about what each part of the profession loves and hates about the other, how to work well together, and what pitfalls to avoid. It was fantastic to have such great attendance at this event and to hear so many different perspectives. Thank you to everyone who attended! #Solicitors #Barristers #ALBA #PULSA #PublicLaw

The FCA has postponed its announcement of the outcome of its review into potential overcharging of customers due to discretionary commission arrangements (DCAs) until May 2025. A redress scheme is now seems more likely, with a consultation paper expected in Spring next year.
