UOK and Southdown were honoured to attend and sponsor the brilliant Sussex Suicide Prevention Conference yesterday at University of Sussex. The aim of the event was to bring professionals and lived experience expertise together to help save lives. By building collaboration, sharing knowledge, and developing practical strategies, there will be tangible impact on communities across Sussex. The day was hosted by Grassroots Suicide Prevention's Chair of the Board Emma Mills-Sheffield FRSA and we heard from some truly inspirational speakers including our partner service Rethink Mental Illness's Service Manager Wendy Robinson who gave us a story of hope from a client. A huge thank you to Rachael Swann, Grassroots Suicide Prevention in partnership with West Sussex County Council, Brighton & Hove City Council, East Sussex County Council and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust for bringing everyone together. Last week, we hosted our first in-person Men’s Mental Health Community of Interest session, bringing together VCSE, NHS and local authority colleagues from across Sussex. Together we explored how to improve men’s mental health, including identifying barriers that prevent men accessing support and hearing the creative ways group members measure the impact of their services. It was inspiring to learn the innovative approaches organisations use to reach, engage and support men with their mental health across different communities in Sussex. Thank you Andrea Potter, East Sussex County Council, Kevin Rozario-Johnson MBA CMgr MCMI, Dan Flanagan FRSA, Brooke Joyce & Rosie Hayward for all your hard work organising and facilitating the session. What an amazing attendance we had today at our Being Well in the West event. With multiple health professionals on hand to give advice and support; including physio appointments (thanks to @hereweare.org.uk), blood pressure and glucose checks, cancer screening awareness, social prescribers, community pharmacists, voluntary sector partners, health digital support, complementary therapies and much more. Over 150 members of our community engaged and gained valuable help and support. It is a great example of how integrated working will improve health outcomes for all. #healthmatters #integratedcommunityworking #communityengagement #healthylifestyles #healthawareness #improvinghealthoutcomes
