Last week, a meeting of the new council of the Ezgu Amal Foundation took place. A round table was held under the auspices of The Europe-Uzbekistan Association for Economic Cooperation — EUROUZ at the Institute of Macroeconomic and Regional Studies in Tashkent. The agenda was more relevant than ever - ecology, the environment, and partnership on the raised topics between Uzbekistan and European countries. Among the participants were representatives from the private sector, NGOs, and government structures. Active dialogues, diverse opinions, and the development of cooperation strategies were key features of the event. Mukhammadali Makhmudov, managing partner at Legalmax, raised important issues related to sustainable development and ecological initiatives. He particularly highlighted the involvement of research centers, which made significant contributions to the dialogue by presenting substantial aspects and solutions to pressing problems. Accelerated trademark registration procedure is now available in Kazakhstan Our law firm is delighted to inform about an important change in the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan,[1] which opens up new opportunities for rights holders, their international legal advisors, and intellectual property law firms. The changes mentioned below significantly speed up the trademark registration process, allowing for the accelerated introduction of new products and services into the Kazakh market. Key aspects of accelerated registration: 1.     Reduction in application processing time: From seven months to three, enabling rights holders to respond more quickly to the dynamically changing market conditions. 2.     Accelerated procedure can be applied only to new filed trademark applications: The procedure is available only for new applications, emphasizing a focus on the rapid introduction of new products and services to the market, and the actual expected workload on the staff of Kazpatent 3.     Increased state duty size: Intended to ensure priority processing of applications. Strategic advantages for applicants and rights holders: Accelerated trademark registration provides rights holders the opportunity to more quickly implement their market entry and intellectual property protection strategies, especially in the context of high and sometimes unfair competition. This innovation requires a deep understanding of procedural nuances and a strategic approach, in connection with which, from our side, we are ready to provide all necessary assistance to colleagues from both internal legal services and external consultants in using this opportunity in the interests of the entrusted companies and clients. Financial aspects: ·      Fee for filing an application and conducting accelerated examination: 770,000 KZT, approximately 1,720 USD. ·      Additionally, for each class beyond three classes of the Nice Classification for accelerated examination: 90,600 KZT, about 202 USD. ·      For conducting an accelerated full examination for trademark registration, additionally for each class beyond three classes of the Nice Classification: 124,765 KZT, approximately 279 USD.[2] [1] According to the order of the Minister of Justice dated February 8, 2024, No. 1349, amendments have been made to the trademark registration rules, significantly accelerating the registration process. [2] The amounts in tenge have been converted into US dollars at the exchange rate as of April 15, 2024.
