"This might not be the biggest event in the world, but it’s definitely the most important. At any given time, over 80% of farmed animals are here in Asia. If we’re not making a difference here, we’re not making a difference anywhere.", said Lucas Alvarenga, Mercy For Animals Brasil, during the AFAD closing ceremony. In his reflection, Lucas Alvarenga spoke about love—something we don’t often discuss enough in our movement, but which is more crucial now than ever. In a world that can leave us feeling powerless, love is what keeps us moving forward. Love for the animals, love for each other, and love for the change we’re building together. 💚 We are also filled with gratitude for Shweta Sood, whose insights and passion for collaboration remind us that we are stronger together. 🌍 Thank you to everyone who was part of this incredible journey. This is just the beginning of what we can achieve for #farmedanimals in #Asia—and around the world. 🙏🏾 #AnimalAdvocacy #LoveForChange #AFAD2024 #SystemicChange #FarmAnimalWelfare

Exciting news ahead for Asia Farm Animal Day (AFAD) and AVA Summit Asia! Asia Farm Animal Day (AFAD) has been on an incredible journey, from its online beginnings in 2020 to becoming a celebrated in-person event, thanks to the collaborative efforts between the Asia for Animals Coalition (AfA) Farm Animal Coalition (FAC) and AVA International, the nonprofit organization behind the AVA Summit events. Moving forward, AFAD will return to its online format and FAC will focus on its regional events, while AVA Summit Asia will host the AVA Summit Asia conference for professional farmed animal advocates of the region. Both FAC and AVA will continue to support each other and collaborate closely, with FAC offering guidance and support through the Asia Advisory Committee. This partnership ensures that AVA Asia remains culturally relevant and impactful in advancing farmed animal welfare across the region. As we look ahead, we’re excited to see AFAD continue in its original online format, a day of bringing awareness and education to a global audience each year on October 10th. And we are excited to announce that the AVA Summit Asia will be held in India in 2025! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported and shaped AFAD’s journey. We’re excited for what’s to come and looking forward to continuing to make a lasting impact for farmed animals in Asia! 🌍

Today’s session on The Asian Funding Landscape at #AFAD2024 brought critical insights into the unique challenges and opportunities for funding in the animal advocacy movement, especially in #Asia. 🌏 📈 Thanh Nguyen (Asia for Animals Coalition), Zoë Sigle, and Harshdeep Singh (Open Philanthropy) discussed how strategic funding is essential to scaling up impact in a region where farmed animal issues are vast but often underfunded. Moderated by Jessika Ava, MS, MPA (Thrive Philanthropy) they emphasized that #targetedinvestment can drive #systemicchange, empower local organizations, and ensure that the movement is sustainable for the long term. 🤝🏾 #Funding is not just financial support—it’s the lifeblood of our #movement. It enables us to push boundaries, reach new audiences, and build a future where farmed animals are treated with the respect and care they deserve. 💡

Closing Day 3 at #AFAD2024: Aquatic Animals Session 🌍 Today’s Aquatic Animals session provided a deep dive into the #welfare challenges faced by fish in aquaculture, with insights from on-ground research in #India and #Indonesia. 🐟 Shreya Padukone and Ravi Teja Sangeetha highlighted the urgent need for species-specific campaigns, sharing findings on the environmental and welfare impacts of harmful aquaculture practices. Vivek Rachuri offered critical insights on the lack of welfare-oriented research in India’s carp farming, emphasizing the need for bottom-up approaches and targeted #regulation. I had the pleasure of presenting to a full room of non-profit advocates looking to make the world a better place, and shared how AI can help them in their role. There is something special when people start seeing the potential AI presents. It is like the world opens in front of their eyes. Extremely grateful for this opportunity and to help others in the space fulfil their missions.
