Google’s I/O event has now fully come and gone. While it does seem that it might not have been as eventful as last year’s event, this is I/O and as such, there was a ton of information and announcements to digest. Not to mention, that most of the big announcements like Android M and Android Pay will take months to fully come to maturity and as such will leave us with plenty of food for thought for the rest of the year. That said, one of the surprise hits of the event was the announcement detailing Google Photos.
For those that missed the earlier coverage, Google Photos is Google’s new option for how to handle your photos and all wrapped up within a standalone app and service. Not to mention, this is not just a Photo app, but instead quite an intelligent one. Some of the features which come built-in have already been discussed and highlight how the ‘Assistant’ within the app is able to quickly offer automatically collating of images, as well as a quick-fix solution to sharing your images with the wider social media public.
Well, another feature which has now been noticed, is a way to help better manage the content and number of images on your device. If you own a device with limited internal storage (or a bigger device but just have used up all your space) then Google Photos will recognize your limited space left and try to help you fix the problem. For instance, the Photos app will first off tell you that you are running low on space and then if you click through with the notification, the app will find all of your photos that are at least thirty days old and offer to delete them for you. Of course, these images will have already been backed up by the app and as such Photos will not offer to delete anything that it does not already know is backed up and therefore, safe to do so.
