Since Netflix was launched in 2007, it rapidly became available in additional regions including Canada, Latin America, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, and in their keynote during CES 2016, the company announced that they are expanding the service globally, launching it in more than 130 new countries around the world.

“With this launch, consumers around the world — from Singapore to St. Petersburg, from San Francisco to Sao Paulo — will be able to enjoy TV shows and movies simultaneously — no more waiting. With the help of the Internet, we are putting power in consumers’ hands to watch whenever, wherever and on whatever device.”, said Reed Hastings, Co-Founder and CEO of Netflix. Still, some regulations prevent the service to become available in China, Crimea, North Korea and Syria. New users can try Netflix for a month without any charge, afterwards, they can subscribe and pay a monthly fee to access all of this content commercial-free and with video playback controls. The service also supports technologies like 4K UHD resolution and Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 surround sound.

The company is very committed to producing original content and their catalog will keep growing this year and it will be available at the same time in every region. Some of the most popular original series include titles such as Marvel’s Daredevil and Jessica Jones, Narcos, Sense8, Marco Polo and Grace and Frankie and the company plans to release 31 original series this year, between new ones and returning titles. Additionally, the company will release two dozen original feature films and documentaries, many stand-up comedy specials and kids shows. Netflix supports 17 languages, but with this expansion, the company is adding support for new ones including Arabic, Korean, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese. The company will continue to add more languages over time as they get to listen and learn from their users.
