Activision just put out the worldwide reveal of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, so naturally you might be wondering how you get access to the open beta. Or rather, if there will even be an open beta at all.

There will in fact be an open beta for the multiplayer mode of Modern Warfare II. Which means you’ll be able to test out some of the new content and systems prior to the game launching on October 28. But how do you get access to the Modern Warfare II multiplayer beta? Will it be available across different platforms? When’s the launch date? These are all good questions and it’s understandable that you’d want to know more.

If you’re excited to dive into the beta later this year, here’s how to gain access.

How to get access to the Modern Warfare II open beta

Pre-order the game

Getting into the open beta will be similar to past game launches in the franchise. You’ll simply need to pre-order the game prior to launch. The sooner the better since we don’t yet know when the beta will start.

Choose your platform

The open beta for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II will be available for all platforms where the game is launching. So you can buy the game on console or on PC. The game will release for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC via both Battle.net and Steam.

All platforms will come with beta access. So you won’t be left out if you choose one platform over another.

PlayStation will get access before other platforms

The one thing to keep in mind is that the PS4 and PS5 will get access to the multiplayer open beta before other platforms. So you can play it before Xbox and PC users. If you care about getting into the beta first, consider pre-ordering the game on a PS4 or PS5. It hasn’t been confirmed exactly when the beta would start for PlayStation players.

However, an official Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II promoted ad on Twitter, Activision says it’ll be at least 5 days before other platforms. In the ad it says you can play the beta first on PS4 and PS5. Small print at the bottom though notes that it will be “at least 5 days before any other platform.”

You won’t necessarily need a code

A lot of time with open betas, you’ll need to punch in a code to gain access to that beta once it goes live. With Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II, you won’t necessarily need to do this. It all depends on where your pre-order the game.

If you pre-order through the Microsoft store, the PlayStation Store, or Battle.net, you won’t need a code and are automatically validated to participate in the beta. According to Activision’s beta FAQ details page. If you participate through a participating retailer, then you will end up getting a 13-digit code that you will need to enter at callofduty.com/betaredeem.

The beta FAQ page seems to lump Steam in with participating retailers. And only mentions no code needed if you pre-order through the Microsoft Store, PlayStation Store, or Battle.net. So if you’re pre-ordering on Steam and want to participate in the beta, keep an eye on your emails for that 13-digit code and enter it as soon as possible if you get one.

After you enter the code and registered, you will then receive an early access beta token through email just prior to the launch of the open beta.
