Champions League Winner Odds: Liverpool Coming Into It

The new, and well received, Champions League format is three games deep already, and we are getting set to head into round four. The top of the betting hasn’t shifted around all too much.

Manchester City and Real Madrid still top the market, but below that Liverpool’s odds have come haring in, whilst a run of poor results have seen Bayern Munich slip out of the top five.

Man City @11/4

City have maintained most, if not all, of the pieces that carried them to their historic treble two years ago, even adding back in Ilkay Gundogan after he departed from Barcelona. As such, they could be primed to once again push for glory.

However, their continental campaign hit a small snag in their first outing, as they drew with Inter Milan in Italy, But two massive wins on the bounce have put them back on track, scoring nine across both games.

As such City aren’t as high on the table as they could be sitting on seven, instead of the nine points possessed by others.

They equally haven’t the easiest run ahead of them, facing Sporting Lisbon, Feyenoord, Juventus and Braga in their next few matches, all games they should win but with room for upsets.

As of right now, City will be looking to make it out of the league stage with ease, but of course demons, often wearing Galactico white, have plagued them in the knockout stages, so nothing is certain.

Real Madrid @4/1

In terms of pedigree, no one has more of this than the Galacticos, who racked up their 15th Champions League title last term, dominating in the knockout stages, once again putting the rest of Europe to the sword.

Real have however already suffered a loss in their Champions League efforts, as they journeyed to Lille, and left on the end of s dismal 1-0 victory.

This shouldn't hurt their league efforts all too much, yet sitting in 12th at this moment may be a worry. But upcoming clashes with AC Milan and Liverpool could pose further issues for the Madridista's, who simply cannot afford further slip-ups.

The kings of the competition are unlikely to suffer the indignity of heading out in the group stages, and their record in the knockouts is unparalleled, but challenges mount, and these must be overcome.

Arsenal @7/1

Arsenal have been so far from the mountaintop that it is unlikely they can even see through the clouds anymore, and yet they still remain third in the betting, no doubt, their Premier League status keeping them afloat more than anything else.

Whilst their talent is undeniable, pushing City close year after year, their distinct lack of European experience could hamper their ability to go deep in the tournament.

However, a reusing 2-0 win over PSG is a major boon for the North London side, who remain undefeated in the tournament, as they sit just outside the automatic qualifying zone in 9th, with 7 points to their name.

Upcoming matches look to swing Arsenal's way as well, with their toughest test being a trip to the San Siro, against Inter, who have already secured a result against City.

Beyond that the Gunners look pretty secure in being able to make the latter stages of the tourney, but they generally struggle here and the trophy is still a long way off.

Liverpool @8/1

Many were concerned about Arne Slots appointment at Liverpool, but he appears to have put most doubters to bed, sitting near the top of the Premier League and being one of two sides in the Champions League to win all three of their matches.

The other of course being Aston Villa, but the Reds possess far more pedigree in the tourney than the Villans, having won it as recently as 2019.

Upcoming games against both Leverkusen and Real Madrid may throw a small wrench in the works, but their points in hand should prove extremely valuable.

The Reds' odds have come flying in since the start, no doubt courtesy of the three wins and the manager proving capable, as the price of 12/1 is a long-gone memory.

Barcelona @8/1

It has now been nearly a decade since Barcelona last won a Champions League, under Pep Guardiola. But the new man, Hansi Flick, has been impressive in their opening set of matches, and they could be poised for a run.

Talent is abundant on the side, courtesy of their La Masia graduates, many of whom impressed on the international stage at the Euros. Lamine Yamal, Predri, Gavi Pau Cubarsi and even Ferran Torres, all will play starring roles for the Catalans.

An opening loss to Monaco was hardly to plan, but a red card didn’t help them in this one, yet a consummate 4-1 victory over Bayern last time out shows their considerable quality.

Beyond this, a meeting with Dortmund, in Germany, could pose issues, but the rest of their fixtures should swing their way, and knockouts are within their sights.

The Catalans look a force to be reckoned with, particularly having knocked off Real Madrid in the league, and Hansi Flick is no stranger to winning the Champions League, as this could be their time, and looks the best option in the betting right now.
