Share ranges, conduct open reviews, and watch trust soar. Market smarts: Know your worth! Benchmark data against competitors to ensure your team's paychecks sing. Performance perks: Tie bonuses and raises to clear goals. Hitting milestones should feel oh-so-rewarding. Equity matters: Every rockstar deserves recognition. Address internal pay gaps and celebrate diverse contributions. Feedback loop: Don't play guessing games! Gather anonymous input and adapt your comp strategy as needed.

Though I don't have any team reporting me however I would like to answer my perspective here : 1. Understand his/her work and progress. 2. Understand the eagerness to learn more. 3. Behavior with other colleagues and discipline. 4. Loyalty towards the organization. 5. Market Norms & Inflation. 6. Whether she/he can be an asset to the organization. This factors can be considered while compensating the team member.

Understanding what the market value is always comes down to understanding what the role is doing/performing and how that employee compares. 1. If the job description is current, use that to compare against 3-4 market roles to find at least a 70% match. 2. Then take the employee salary divided by the the aggregate of the market median to find their compa-ratio. This number is your golden ticket! 3. Analysis. Every comp dept is different, but here are some general guidelines: If the employee is between 80-90% they may be still learning the role. 90-110% they should be proficient and know the role well. 110-120% they are likely a knowledge expert. Below 80% and above 120%, you will have some issues worth addressing.

I think appraisal should never be kept yearly basis. Pay and reward them when you see they deserve. Some employees deliver double of what they are suppose to deliver. Still, they never hesitate to contribute more. Unfair compensation is demotivating.

Ex - Your organisation is expanding in a new geography, obviously you will have regional partners hired but would be great if you learn the basics of the native language of that region which takes you one step closer to people.
