Feedback should be from the right & relevant people. If we think that they will give us a positive response, we will be getting disappointed or even dispersed as well. Before getting into feedback mode, mental preparation is very important. If that's not there, then acceptance will be missing. Taking the feedback as a Feed-forward, then we will become more rational & resilient.

Learning is so accessible today. There are books, recordings, podcasts, workshops, webinars, and TV shows. If you need to work on presentations, watch good ones. Need to improve your writing? Read more. Look at what successful people are doing and how are they doing it. What are three things you can pick up and use? Look at your own time management. Where can you incorporate learning? Where are you wasting time? Now, I am not promoting filling in every minute. I am suggesting that we waste time on non productive things. BTW, planning, and quiet time are productive. Give yourself space. I took Wed afternoon off from job searches. Reading a novel on the beach gave me the idea of where I wanted to work, resulting in a life-changing job.

One of the best ways to stay updated as a coach is to join a community of coaches. This will ensure you're always in touch with what's happening in the world of coaching. Find out how technology is going to affect the coaching practice and experiment using tools to enhance this process.

Seek mentorship: Find an experienced coach or mentor to guide me in refining my coaching skills. AND Practice self-reflection: Regularly assess my coaching style, strengths, and areas for improvement.

Learning should be an integral part of our life. We should end our day with some learning. I always tell in my training & coaching sessions to have a learning journal. We can keep that journey exclusively for our learning. It is not only about a job or education. We can also learn from life lessons. As a coach, every client of ours gives us a learning experience. I always say either as a trainer or a coach, learning is a two way process.

Strategies may not always be brought in by us. If the feedback is slightly strong & if we are slightly or very low, we may not be able to think beyond. Even as coaches, we can get help from other fellow coaches or coach friends. Things which don't come under our radar, they will make it visible & based on this, we will be empowered to make our growth or elevation strategies. Then no looking back at all.

Change your environment. Have meetings in a different place. Change up the agenda. Maybe the day is a bad time for the meeting. Think about what they aren't sharing with you, and the reason they aren't. Improve your listening skills, and watch. Let your client know the why.

Seek out diverse perspectives: Expose myself to different coaching styles, approaches, and cultural perspectives. AND Re-evaluate my goals: Ensure my coaching objectives align with the organization's evolving needs and priorities.

Develop a growth mindset: Embrace the idea that my coaching skills can be continually improved and refined. AND Seek certification or training: Consider obtaining coaching certifications or training to enhance my skills and credibility.

Changes can come in two ways 1. Awesome positive & progressive change 2. Drastic & unacceptable negative change First one gives us happiness but the second has to give us confidence & resilience rather than depression or frustration. While implementing the changes we need to anticipate both positive & negative responses. But one thing we can do is, we need to be prepared with Plan B. Here, a good executive or leadership coach will help us during the implementation process. Even if things go bad, that change will not affect us, if we have a coach beside us.

It’s also important to appreciate that the evidence you seek for progress being made is not always obvious, nor does it need to be, for it’s not about you, the coach. Remember that sometimes coaching outcomes are ambiguous and unclear, and may not be seen until several months or even years afterwards. Good coaches appreciate they don’t need to see the results for themselves, it’s about their client - and sometimes that investment requires lying fallow for sometime.

As coaches we must constantly be looking to evolve and refine our approach. I am flabbergasted by how ‘old fashioned’ the coaching world is. Our world has changed so much since the 1980s when the non directive style and tools like GROW & SMART were relevant. Now they are not so relevant. The non-directive style is like digging for gold with a toothpick. We don’t have time for that these days. The coaching world will have to wake up. I’ve been breaking the coaching rules for several years at Paseda360 and the results speak for themselves. Follow your gut and do what you know is right for your clients.

Think about how your strategies may be outdated. Maybe they are just wrong for this client. Go back to your toolbox and try other things. Speak with the client and discover what they feel. Coaching is about the client and what works for them. Coaching isn't about you! Be sure you don't push your ego and "your best tool" on the client; that might not be what is wanted or needed at this time. Look in the mirror and be ready to serve.
