What does radical collaboration look like? For 1000L, radical collaboration means making space to co-create, reimagine, plan, and build the initiative's future together. Earlier this summer, representatives from partner and collaborator organizations Commonland, Rainforest Alliance, Regen10, Systemiq Ltd., Tech Matters, Heifer International, and CGIAR came together to explore what the next phase of the 1000L partnership will look like, from mobilizing funding for landscape leaders to developing new governance models for networks within the initiative. We love a tool 2-for-1! The Sustainable Landscapes Rating tool supports both landscape actors and landscape investors by providing a rapid, objective, evidence-based assessment of key jurisdictional policies and governance conditions within an identified region or territory. Co-developed with 1000L partners EcoAgriculture Partners, Rainforest Alliance, and Conservation International, this tool helps landscape leaders assess and track the progress of key conditions needed for true landscape sustainability, including land use planning and management, land and resource tenure, biodiversity and other ecosystem services, stakeholder coordination and participation and commodity production systems. 🥑 From toppings for Millenials’ toast to a tortilla chip’s perfect pairing, it’s impossible to ignore their steadily increasing demand. Americans consume nearly 80 million pounds of #avocados on Super Bowl Sunday alone. While guacamole might be a regular addition to your rotation of choice dips, confronting its #environmental and #economic implications might be more difficult to swallow. 🌳 Jalisco State is Mexico’s second-largest avocado exporter, and the unregulated clearing of its forested lands to meet market demand for avocados has severely impacted the region’s soil and water quality, ultimately threatening the #sustainability of the very product farmers are racing to grow. Fortunately, Rainforest Alliance and the Sierra de Tapalpa landscape partnership are working to rally growers and their communities around a shared vision: long-term economic, ecological and cultural viability for their landscape via data, transparency and collaboration.
