5 years. On this day, five years ago, I filed the paperwork for what I thought might be...well, scratch that...we had no idea what this might be. A real opportunity? A transition strategy? TBD. We had some good potential clients, some pretty solid and relevant experience, and a 'why not? what else are we going to do?' attitude. All of which created an opportunity to take a leap of faith and start a company. And, here we are. Five years later. Still going. And, it looks like Year 5 is going to be the best we've ever had. Lots of accomplishments to be proud of for 350Solutions and our crew: - We've now verified 208,919 tonnes of registered carbon removals (and that's just the registered CDR ones - not the various pilots, carbon utilization, or other techs) - We've become a leading carbon removal (#CDR) expert, providing technical diligence and independent assessment in CDR across almost all CDR pathways for some of the best clients in the business - We're having our best financial year ever this year - I think we are still having fun, learning, and enjoying the work - Most importantly, I think we are doing this while working normal schedules (usually!), not getting too stressed, and enjoying time with our families and friends. So, thank you to the supporters of 350Solutions from the early days to now! Y'all have been critical to our success and we can't thank you enough - with a special shoutout to XPRIZE who provided our first major contract back in 2019. This is a fantastic report from XPRIZE regarding 100 of the top #carbonremoval suppliers, a full breakdown of who/what/where they are, and some great business and technical progress details. It also presents some amazing insight regarding the path forward for CDR and #GettingtoGigatonne. It's on one hand amazing seeing the amount of work going on in CDR, but on the other hand it is eye-opening to see the amount of work that still needs to be done (the numbers regarding credit sales vs. deliveries and prices highlight this). The Isometric Registry officially launches today. The first credits on the Registry are the most scientifically rigorous, highest quality carbon removal credits to ever exist, marking a new era for carbon dioxide removal (CDR). Today’s credits were delivered to key members of Frontier. This follows Isometric's recent approval as a qualified organization for verifying and issuing credits to Frontier buyers. The carbon removal for these credits was conducted by Vaulted Deep, a biomass carbon removal and storage (BiCRS) company. Vaulted secures end-of-life organic wastes through sustainable sourcing practices. They take this waste and deploy slurry injection technology to geologically sequester it for storage, resulting in durable carbon removal. Stripe and Shopify’s credits are visible on the Isometric Registry, which sets a new standard for transparency in CDR, providing a permanent audit trail for all carbon removal credits issued by Isometric. There are three things that make Isometric carbon removal credits the highest quality to ever exist. First, they are grounded in scientific rigor, having been verified against the Isometric Standard. This ensures that one credit equals one tonne of carbon dioxide removed from the atmosphere and safely stored. Second, they are transparent with a publicly available life cycle assessment that accounts for every step of the carbon removal process. Finally, they reflect a model that aligns incentives. The verification and issuance of all Isometric credits is paid for by the buyer of those credits on a flat-fee basis, minimizing any conflict of interest. Carbon markets require trust to operate effectively and that’s exactly what Isometric’s new carbon removal credits deliver. This marks a new era for this industry, where buyers can purchase with confidence. This is a critical step towards creating quality in carbon markets, helping carbon removal reach the gigatonne scale that the planet needs. Breaking news in the world of carbon removal - Red Trail Energy (RTE) has been issued a groundbreaking 157,592 CO2 Removal Certificates (CORCs), the largest issuance to date! ⭐ The project securely stored biogenic CO2 from bioethanol production deep underground in a class VI well in North Dakota, USA! The CORCs were issued following the Puro Standard for Geologically Stored Carbon (BECCS), ensuring permanent storage and adherence to environmental safeguards, with deducted emissions from project construction and operations. It's the first ethanol facility to generate CORCs in the VCM, marking the largest carbon removal project registered.🚀 Antti Vihavainen, Puro's CEO, said, “At Puro, we remain steadfast in our commitment to establishing rigorous standards that propel the expansion, commoditization, and liquidity of durable CDR markets. The significance of RTE's CCS project cannot be overstated, as it serves as a compelling demonstration that through stringent methodologies for carbon removal and the financial incentives from CORCs, the vital infrastructure required for large-scale carbon sequestration will materialize.” Project details: 🌿Red Trail Energy’s core activity is the production of bio-ethanol from corn, used as biofuel in the transport sector. The CO2 would otherwise be vented into the atmosphere. Instead, it was injected below the project site near Richardton, ND. See the wellhead in this post's image. 🌽 Biomass sustainability: Historical records confirm that the agricultural land has been farmed for corn and wheat since at least 1972, was never an area of high biodiversity value, nor did it transition from regions with high carbon stock. 💵 Financial additionality: RTE made an additional investment to their infrastructure to capture and store the CO2, considering future revenue from CORCs, making the project possible. 👣 Climate change mitigation: RTE puts continuous efforts to ensure that the fossil footprint of their main product, biofuel, is reduced through energy efficiency measures, sourcing of renewable energy, and reasonable agricultural practices. 🧩 Traceability and transparency: The CORCs have been issued to the International Carbon Reduction and Offset Alliance (ICROA)-endorsed Puro Registry where their complete lifecycle is recorded. Part of the issued CORCs have been retired and attached to the fuel product for the ethanol that RTE sells to LCFS markets.
