New Blog: Exploring Evidence on Sustainable Energy Interventions Achieving universal access to sustainable energy (SDG 7) remains a critical challenge. 3ie, in collaboration with Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), has developed the first-ever Evidence Gap Map (EGM) on sustainable energy interventions in low- and middle-income countries. With 703 studies included, this EGM highlights key evidence clusters and gaps, revealing where interventions like improved cookstoves and electrification projects have been evaluated and where critical research is still needed - particularly in countries with the greatest energy access deficits. It's #WorldEducationDay on 24 January! #Education is the cornerstone of sustainable development, and the findings on #SDG4 in 3ie’s latest report, Half-time for #SDG #evidence generation: Insights from the Development Evidence Portal', reveal important insights for advancing global education goals. ▪️SDG 4 stands out with a wealth of evidence: Over 1,000 impact evaluations and nearly 70 systematic reviews make it one of the most evidence-rich SDGs. Latin America leads the way: This region has the largest evidence base, driven by extensive evaluations of conditional cash transfer programs and their positive effects on education outcomes. ▪️ Championing education research: The World Bank is a global leader, funding nearly three times more education-related impact evaluations than the next largest funder. ▪️ Persistent challenges: Despite progress, countries with low secondary school completion rates remain under-researched. Expanding the evidence base in these contexts is critical to ensuring equitable, quality education for all. On this #WorldEducationDay, let’s reaffirm our commitment to using robust evidence to break barriers, empower learners, and leave no one behind. 👉 Swipe through the accompanying images to see key highlights from the report! 🌾 Unlocking Opportunities for Smallholder Farmers: 3ie's Largest Systematic Review Yet! 🌍 For over two decades, market access interventions have been championed as transformative tools for rural development and poverty reduction. But what do we really know about their impact? 3ie’s latest systematic review—the largest we’ve ever conducted—examines the scope, quality, and lessons from 262 interventions across 53 low- and middle-income countries. Key findings reveal that: ✅ Market access interventions improve agricultural productivity, income, and food security. ✅ Farmers benefit from reduced transaction costs, better market prices, and increased adoption of improved practices. ✅ Contract farming, storage infrastructure, and market information systems significantly enhance farmers' income and market participation. However, significant gaps remain: 📊 Limited data on food security and nutrition outcomes. 📈 Few studies explore long-term impacts and structural transformation. 💡 Insufficient insights into cost-effectiveness for policymakers and donors. This review sheds light on what works, what doesn’t, and where future research and investments should focus to drive sustainable change. 📘 Explore the blog for an in-depth analysis: Read here: https://lnkd.in/gq_a62my 📄 Dive into the systematic review and brief for detailed findings and recommendations: Read more: https://lnkd.in/gwT9UrSw Let’s work together to bridge the gaps and create more effective, inclusive agricultural markets! 🌱 #MarketAccess #SmallholderFarmers #Agriculture #ResearchImpact #PovertyReduction #RuralDevelopment Shannon Shisler, PhD Pierre Marion International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) IFAD Asia Pacific

#Migration shapes our world in countless ways, but irregular migration often exposes individuals to significant risks and vulnerabilities. At 3ie, in partnership with the IOM - UN Migration, we’ve developed an Evidence Gap Map to identify what works—and where evidence is missing—to address irregular migration effectively. 🔍 Key insights from the brief: ✅ Limited evidence exists on interventions that reduce risks and improve the well-being of migrants. ✅ Programs targeting irregular migration often lack rigorous evaluation. ✅ Filling these gaps is crucial for creating policies that protect migrants and foster safe, dignified migration pathways. 📘 Dive into the findings here: https://lnkd.in/gGhEvYQF Let’s commit to building a world where migration is safe, inclusive, and supported by robust evidence. #InternationalMigrantsDay #MigrationMatters #EvidenceForImpact #SustainableDevelopment #IMD2024
