Why is malnutrition still a global crisis—and how do we fix it? Despite being the leading cause of infant mortality, malnutrition remains chronically underfunded. Even before recent funding cuts, the fight against hunger and undernutrition struggled to gain the political will and investment it deserves. Yet the numbers are clear: ✅ Every $1 invested in nutrition generates $23 in returns ❌ Malnutrition costs economies tens of billions annually As world leaders gather in Paris for the #NutritionforGrowth summit, it’s time to recognize that nutrition isn’t just a development issue — it’s an economic one. So what’s holding us back? In this insightful discussion, Joel Spicer, President & CEO of Nutrition International, and F. Cleo Kawawaki of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), join Charles Pellegrin to explore solutions. 🎥 Watch now: https://lnkd.in/gxc6rrrG #N4GParis #InvestInNutrition

Malnutrition is a global crisis that measures its impacts in lost lives, lost health and lost potential. But it is a solvable problem. We are delighted to take a step closer in our commitment to combating this crisis by initiating a discussion on mainstreaming nutrition in development. Today at #N4G2025, we organized a side event along with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) on “Mainstreaming nutrition in development: Unlocking the potential of multilateral development banks”. The event witnessed panelists from governments of Pakistan and Indonesia, World Bank, African Development Bank, the SUN Movement and FAO who spoke about fostering multilateral collaboration for integrating nutrition into the national development agenda, making development plans nutrition-smart, innovative financing models for nutrition-smart investments, mainstreaming nutrition across the lending portfolio, and the policies and partnerships that can make nutrition funding scalable and sustainable. Delighted to co-host this discussion with Leona Liu (Van Looveren), Joel Spicer, Sérgio Cooper Teixeira, F. Cleo Kawawaki, Takeshi Ueda, Nadia Rehman, Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives, Ministry of Planning Development and Special Initiatives, Government of Pakistan, Amich Alhumami, Bappenas, Afshan Khan, Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Movement, Tisungeni Zimpita, African Development Bank Group, FAO, Kyoko Okamura Shibata, The World Bank, Manoj Kumar.

As #N4G2025 brings together global leaders to accelerate action against malnutrition, the conversation must extend beyond commitments to long-term solutions. In their latest blog, our President & CEO, Joel Spicer, and His Excellency Dr. Ibrahim Mayaki, highlight the urgent need for nutrition sovereignty — a future where countries and communities are equipped with the resources, knowledge and systems to drive their own nutrition agendas, beyond traditional aid models. Their insights reinforce a crucial message at N4G Paris: sustainable progress in nutrition depends on locally driven, resilient solutions that empower people to thrive. As the world faces intersecting crises, investing in nutrition is more urgent than ever. At #N4G2025, we call on governments, donors, and multilateral development banks to take bold action: ✅ Invest in costed nutrition action plans – Align funding with national plans prioritizing the most high-impact, cost-effective interventions, ensuring transparency and accountability. ✅ Leverage multilateral development banks (MDBs) – Integrate nutrition objectives across sectors like health, agriculture, WASH, education, and social protection to maximize impact. ✅ Prioritize WHA targets, especially anaemia – Nutrition underpins the SDGs. It’s time to drive progress on lagging targets, especially anaemia, which has worsened over the last decade. ✅ Scale up large-scale food fortification (LSFF) – Fortifying staple foods with essential vitamins and minerals is a proven, cost-effective way to ensure access to nutritious diets, particularly for women and girls. 💡 The path forward is clear. It’s time to scale what works, invest in solutions that reach those most in need, and drive lasting impact.
