We collaborated with Acumen to conduct a first-of-its-kind investigation into how agribusinesses and PUE companies influence income growth for MSMEs, such as shop owners and smallholder farmers. This groundbreaking report introduces new methods for measuring income and impact, offering insights from customer surveys of three pioneering companies in Acumen’s portfolio — Koolboks in Nigeria, Promethean Power Systems in India, and Lizard Earth in Sierra Leone. 📊 Key findings: The median power costs incurred by Koolboks customers dropped 100% with average costs down 40% Median revenues of Lizard Earth cacao farmers increased by 33% Promethean dairy farmers sold 27% more liters per cow and 42% more overall liters All three companies achieved meaningful impact on drivers of income — like costs, yields, and prices — helping improve the livelihoods of low-income customers. Proud to see our work with Bayer | Crop Science featured in Harvard Business Review! For years, impact investors have struggled to capture the real, lived experiences of those they aim to serve. We've been working alongside Bayer to help them move beyond just tracking productivity and income by capturing how their programs actually changed smallholder farmers' lives. The results? Not just financial gains, but: > 71% of farmers reported a higher quality of life (which shot up to 87% in follow-ups!) > 79% of farmers felt less stress after being in the program We hope that partnerships like this one prove that real social impact can—and should—be measured as rigorously as financial returns. What happens when tradition collides with innovation? Anuprerna, a social enterprise supporting handloom artisans in West Bengal, has been working tirelessly to uplift the lives of India’s skilled craftsmen. Earlier this year, with support from Acumen, we set out to measure their true impact. The results? 🌍 > 9 in 10 artisans report a better quality of life through fair income opportunities. > 93% say they’ve gained consistent, reliable work. > An NPS of 67, rising to 82 for artisans with 5+ years with Anuprerna. But it’s not just about financial independence. Anuprerna is shaping a sustainable supply chain rooted in transparency and craft. By preserving heritage, they are empowering future generations.
