This first official day of Summer 2024 is a special day for Team 621. We named the company for June 21 because the start of summer represents a special time we remember from childhood - when an exhilarating future awaits, full of new possibilities, meaningful connections and the chance to make lasting memories. That's the spirit we bring to our work at 621 as we help companies envision and bring to life exciting new opportunities to grow.
On a personal note, when I reflect on the spirit of the start of summer, I also think about wanting to slow down time to make every moment last. My wife and I are feeling that sentiment acutely this summer, as we prepare to send our oldest off to her freshman year in college this fall. I've been reflecting a great deal of late on how fleeting time is and about the imperative of being fully present.
In my view, that's the ultimate challenge in life - to let go of the angst we may harbor about what might/might not happen in the future or what could have gone differently in the past, and instead commit to being fully here in the present. I'd like to think that doing so would set us all up to live rich, fulfilling lives and to take complete advantage of what's in front of us now.
To that end, this passage from Seneca's Letters on Ethics spoke to me: "If you lay hands on today, you will find you are less dependent on tomorrow. While you delay, life speeds on by…. time alone is ours. Nature has put us in possession of this one thing, this fleeting slippery thing."
As the 621 Team celebrates our "birthday," I cannot adequately express the deep gratitude I have for the wonderful people I get to work with each day as part of the 621 team. To a person, they each have special talents as marketers but even more importantly, are first-class, high-integrity human beings. Traveling this road with them makes me excited to get up and go to work each day. Special thanks to our core management team: Simon Fleming-Wood, Dana Shapiro Marotto, Jim Underwood, and of course the incomparable Meghan Paradis Keane.
Here's to a summer to remember.
