This program equips him with specialized skills for a new career, perfectly blending his extensive military experience with a growing passion for healthcare and transport services.     I'm concerned about the new DoD requirement that 75% of SkillBridge positions must lead to a permanent role with a salary of at least $52,000. This will hurt the very people it's meant to help — the SkillBridgers themselves. Here’s why: The personal preferences of Service Members should always come FIRST. A one-size-fits-all approach doesn't work. Each individual has unique goals and aspirations, and their choices should be respected above all else. We've had hundreds of Service Members complete our SkillBridge program. Many choose not to stay with their host company after the internship — not because they lack skills, but because it's simply not the right fit. Whether it’s the industry, job responsibilities, company culture, the boss, or even the commute, forcing someone to stay to meet a 75% quota isn’t fair. For some, their post-SkillBridge plan is to pursue further education. If the internship experience showed them that a college degree would better serve their long-term career goals, they should be able to focus on school full-time, using their GI Bill benefits without pressure to jump into a job immediately. Others may want to spend more time with their families after years of service and frequent relocations. They’ve made enormous sacrifices, and now that they’re finally veterans, they might want to prioritize family over work. This is a personal choice; they shouldn’t feel pressured to take a job if they’re not ready. Not every Service Member is driven by a high salary. Some may prefer a remote job that pays less than $52,000, valuing flexibility and a lower-stress lifestyle over income. For some, financial priorities have shifted — they may be retired, have a spouse who is the primary earner, or want to take it easy. They deserve the freedom to make that choice. The program is functioning well as it is. Let’s ensure that Service Members retain the autonomy to make decisions that align with their personal and professional goals. During his time in service, Michael has experienced and witnessed close friends endure the extreme challenges SEAL, SWCC, and EOD operators face during their careers. These challenges are not restricted to the battlefield and often impact the operator's home life.
